Job Summary To prepare the operating room for surgical procedures, ensuring surgical equipment and instruments are properly functioning during procedures. Provide basic surgical assistance, ensuring patient comfort and quality care. Ensure equipment is sterilized per UMMC infection control and regulatory standards. This role may require on‑call subject to departmental discretion. Responsibilities Maintain inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies in accordance with UMMC and regulatory standards. Provide basic surgical support including room set‑up, sterile field management, handling of specimens and instruments, and room turnover. Assess equipment, instrument, and supply needs for surgical procedures and ensure availability. Ensure proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during surgical procedures. Follow infection control policies, AORN recommendations, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements to assure a safe work environment for self, coworkers, and patients. Demonstrate core standards of exceptional customer service. These duties are general in nature and may be supplemented or changed by management at any time. Physical And Environmental Demands Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environments such as high noise levels, exposure to heat and cold, handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, frequent exposure to bio‑hazardous conditions including radiation, blood‑borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. May involve occasional extended hours, off‑site travel, and change in work volume. Tasks include constant reaching, bending, twisting, walking, standing, sitting, climbing, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and, if necessary, lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds.
