At Greenwich House, we believe in empowering communities through transformative programs, we offer more than a job we offer a mission. When you work with us, you become part of a passionate, collaborative team committed to making a difference in people's lives. Every initiative, class, and outreach effort we deliver is fueled by a shared commitment to equity and compassion.

Founded in 1902 as a settlement house aimed at supporting New York City's growing immigrant population, Greenwich House has since evolved into a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering wellness, creativity, and connection across the city. Today, Greenwich House offers a diverse range of programs in health, human services, education, and the arts, serving thousands of New Yorkers each year.

The Director will be responsible for the daily operations of the center, ensuring a welcoming and engaging environment for all members. The Director oversees the daily meal service, develops and implements educational, cultural, and recreational programs, and works closely with social work staff to coordinate client referrals and support services. The role also includes ensuring proper maintenance and upkeep of the center. In addition, the Director builds strong relationships with center members and community partners and serves as the agency's liaison to the Center's Advisory Board.

  • Monitor the daily schedule of programs and services.
  • Ensure building security at closing time.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness standards as required by NYC Aging and DOH regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Development and Communications teams on relevant initiatives.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Provide weekly supervision and support to staff.
  • Participate in regular supervision with your direct supervisor.

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Certified SIFI (Seminar in Field Instruction) credential required, or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and organize comprehensive programming for older adults, including recreational and educational offerings, while engaging staff, members, and stakeholders in the process.
  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and direct a variety of center activities, including trips and special events.
  • Proficient in using and training staff on new administrative systems, software, and digital platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with members, staff, instructors, community partners, and the general public.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and leadership ability.
