PORT POLICE OFFICER 3221 Salary: $80,680.00 - $124,236.00 Annually Location: CITY OF LOS ANGELES, CA Job Type: FULL‑TIME Department: Harbor DUTIES A Port Police Officer is a sworn peace officer, authorized to carry a firearm who enforces federal and state regulations, City of Los Angeles ordinances, and security, traffic, and safety rules and regulations; engages in law enforcement activities, including uniformed foot, vehicle, boat, motorcycle, bicycle patrol and plainclothes assignments, arrest, and report writing at the Port of Los Angeles; provides information to the public regarding locations and operations of the Department; engages in hazardous materials enforcement; and does related work. REQUIREMENTS / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS At least 20 years of age at the time of application and 21 years at police academy graduation. Graduation from a U.S. high school, G.E.D., or California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE) certificate is required. A two‑ or four‑year college degree from an accredited U.S. or foreign institution may be substituted for the high school requirement; documentation proving accreditation must be submitted prior to the written test. Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. A valid Class C driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is required at the time of appointment. Candidates will not be eligible for appointment if their DMV record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at‑fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation such as DUI. PHYSICAL FITNESS QUALIFIER Applicants must complete the Physical Fitness Qualifier (PFQ) at least once prior to appointment. The score is advisory and valid for 12 months. MEDICAL EVALUATION Consists of a thorough evaluation by a City physician, including potential cardiac stress test. To remain medically qualified, applicants must maintain good health during the period following the medical examination. Results are valid for up to 12 months.
