Additional services include safety and security, hospitality, social outreach support, maintenance and cleaning, landscaping and technology. Job Skills / Requirements JOB SUMMARY Pay: $23.00/hour; Full-time 40hrs/week Shift: Tues-12:30 pm to 9 pm. Wed-Sat-2:30 pm to 11 pm Location: Downtown New Haven bordered by MLK Blvd, State St, and the New Haven Green Start Date: ASAP Requirements: Physically fit, Driver's License, clean driving record, and willingness to walk several miles outdoors in all weather conditions As a Safety Shift Supervisor, you're the link between the Operations Manager and the Safety Ambassador team on the ground. This is a working supervisor role — you'll spend most of your shift in the field, patrolling alongside your team, verifying their work, and stepping in on incidents when it matters most. You bring structure, accountability, and calm leadership to every shift, keeping the district safe and welcoming for everyone who lives, works, and visits. WHAT YOU'LL DO Serve as the primary point of contact for Safety Ambassadors during your shift, providing direction, support, and accountability Open each shift by sharing the daily work plan, assigning patrol zones, reviewing the schedule, and inspecting uniforms and appearance Ensure Ambassadors have the equipment, supplies, and information needed to do their jobs, and that equipment is inspected before use Check in with Ambassadors throughout the shift, correcting issues and providing real-time coaching Train new Safety Ambassadors and deliver ongoing training in line with company policy and local requirements Educate staff to handle adverse situations calmly and effectively, and guide the team during emergencies — including evacuation support and knowing which emergency services to contact Patrol Supervision & Quality Assurance Conduct observation patrols to verify Safety Ambassadors are in their assigned zones and performing to customer and Streetplus standards Ensure staff adheres to shift priorities and approved procedures Identify, report, and correct conditions that adversely impact the district Review incident reports submitted by your team for accuracy, grammar, and completeness Recommend improvements to policies and procedures based on what you observe in the field Safety & Incident Response Maintain a visible, uniformed presence in the district to deter unwanted behavior Step in to assist Safety Ambassadors with serious incidents, de-escalating confrontational or high-stress situations with calm, confident communication Respond to requests regarding trespassing and ensure suspicious activity is investigated immediately Maintain working knowledge of local ordinances related to quality-of-life issues, including public intoxication, public urination, open container, loitering, trespassing, and panhandling Record the time, location, and nature of unusual, suspicious, or illegal activity and report to your manager Interact respectfully with unhoused individuals and connect them with available local resources Community & Reporting Build goodwill through daily contact with business owners, property managers, and stakeholders Greet pedestrians, offer directions, and assist visitors, residents, and workers Document and report incidents, observations, and completed tasks via smartphone and two-way radio Assist with light cleaning tasks and other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We hire for professionalism, integrity, and attitude.
