Job description

What We Do

IronStride Solutions is a Denver-based engineering firm specializing in traffic engineering and the implementation of technology in transportation. Our staff has served in lead roles on many of the major transportation projects across Colorado, and we continue to work closely with our clients to deliver epic projects throughout the state.

As an industry we have a huge job ahead of us to prepare our existing transportation infrastructure to meet future needs. Our team is passionate about the work we do and the future we are building through improved safety and mobility in our local communities.

Construction Inspector (ITS & Traffic Signals) - Entry Level

We are currently seeking entry-level candidates for a position focused on construction oversight for traffic- and technology-related transportation projects, but will also consider candidates with some previous experience. Exact job responsibilities will vary based on current projects and the candidate’s level of experience, but will often include responsibility for on-site inspection, quality assurance, and documentation to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications (e.g., CDOT Standard Specifications and Special Provisions), and applicable codes and standards.

Responsibilities will include a blend of field construction observation, construction administration and documentation, client interaction, contractor oversight, quantity tracking, and submittal review. Projects will be focused around traffic control, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signal construction/installation projects, and other related construction activities.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented field professional who is comfortable working independently, communicating with contractors and project teams, and completing construction documentation while observing on-site construction activities. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, problem solving, and attention to detail. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and an associates or bachelor’s degree (e.g., Construction Management, Engineering) is preferred. Proficiency with MS Office is required, in addition to strong organizational and time management skills. Candidates must maintain a valid driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation to project sites across the state as a requirement of both initial and ongoing employment.

Travel and Work Environment

  • Position is primarily field-based and will require travel to project sites throughout the state. Travel is an essential function of the position, and overnight travel will often be required for extended periods of time, depending on project location and project needs.
  • Work environment will be outdoor year round, in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to active roadway/work zone environments; must follow all safety protocols

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb ladders, and work near live traffic
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds of equipment, as needed

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily field inspections of ITS and traffic signal installations, including conduit, cabinets, controllers, detection systems (loop, video, radar), fiber optic communications, CCTV cameras, DMS/VMS signs, signal poles/mast arms, tolling equipment and other construction activities as needed
  • Verify the contractor compliance with approved plans, specifications, MUTCD standards, and CDOT/municipal requirements
  • Document daily inspection activities, quantities, materials, and test results in daily reports
  • Review and verify contractor material submittals, shop drawings, and certifications
  • Witness and document acceptance testing (e.g., signal timing, communications connectivity, power/grounding checks)
  • Coordinate with project engineers, contractors, and agency staff to resolve field issues and non-conformances
  • Take measurements and document quantities for pay item verification and progress payments
  • Maintain accurate field notes, photographs, and as-built documentation
  • Ensure work zone traffic control complies with approved traffic control plans and safety standards
  • Identify and report safety hazards or non-compliant work practices

Preferred Qualifications/Certifications:

  • IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Level I/II or Field Technician certification
  • ATSSA Traffic Control Technician/Supervisor certification
  • NICET certification in Highway Construction or Transportation Systems
  • CDOT-specific inspector training/certification
  • Experience with fiber optic splicing/testing and network communications equipment
