With operations across Nevada and California, the company has significant growth plans and is looking for someone who can play a key role in expanding its fire alarm design capabilities.

This isn't simply another design position. The company is looking for a technically strong individual who can take ownership of complex projects while also training, mentoring and developing junior designers as the department continues to grow.

It's an excellent opportunity for an experienced designer who enjoys being hands-on technically but also wants to step into a position with greater responsibility, influence and long-term leadership potential.

Key Responsibilities

Fire Alarm Design & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the design and development of fire alarm and life safety systems across a variety of commercial, industrial and large-scale construction projects.
  • Produce detailed fire alarm shop drawings, system layouts, wiring diagrams and installation documentation
  • Perform battery calculations, voltage-drop calculations and other system design calculations.
  • Develop fire alarm device layouts, notification appliance circuits, initiating device circuits and system riser diagrams.
  • Design and coordinate fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72, NFPA 70, IBC, IFC and applicable Nevada and California codes.
  • Review architectural, electrical and mechanical drawings to identify design requirements and potential coordination issues.
  • Prepare and review fire alarm submittal packages for approval by local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Coordinate with project managers, installation teams, field technicians, general contractors and other trades.
  • Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, testing and inspections.
  • Review designs for accuracy, code compliance and constructability.
  • Take ownership of multiple projects while ensuring deadlines, quality standards and client expectations are met.

Training, Mentorship & Department Growth

  • Train, mentor and support junior Fire Alarm Designers, helping them develop their technical knowledge and design capabilities.
  • Review junior designers' drawings, calculations and submittals, providing constructive feedback and technical guidance.
  • Help establish and improve design standards, workflows and quality control procedures
  • Act as a senior technical resource for the wider design and project delivery teams.
  • Support the development of a scalable, efficient fire alarm design department.
  • Work closely with company leadership to identify opportunities for improving design efficiency and project delivery.
  • Play an active role in supporting the company's expansion across Nevada and California
  • Help develop the next generation of designers as the company continues to grow.

What We're Looking For

  • NICET Level III or IV certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Strong experience in fire alarm system design within a fire protection contractor or electrical contracting environment
  • Proven experience producing fire alarm shop drawings, calculations and complete submittal packages.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 72, NFPA 70 and applicable building and fire codes.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant fire alarm design software.
  • Experience working directly with project managers, installation teams and AHJs.
  • Ability to independently manage complex design packages from start to finish.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with both office and field teams.
  • A genuine interest in mentoring junior designers and helping build a successful design department

Highly Desirable

  • NICET Level IV certification.
  • Previous experience as a Senior Designer, Lead Designer or Design Supervisor.
  • Experience mentoring, training or reviewing the work of junior designers.
  • Familiarity with fire alarm requirements and permitting processes in Nevada and California
  • Experience with major fire alarm manufacturers and platforms such as Notifier, Siemens, Edwards, Simplex or Fire-Lite.
