Position Description
Employment Status : Full Time, Non-Exempt
Compensation : $50,000 annually based on experience, with benefits package including IRA, HSA, health, dental, IRA, paid holidays, PTO and reduced hours from 40 to 36 hours weekly after completing 30 days of employment.
General Description
Reports to : CFO, COO, Finance Team
Description : The accountant plays a critical role in ensuring efficient day-to-day financial operations of the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH). This detail-oriented position is responsible for managing accounting software and databases, helping to shape office systems, communicating with vendors, and serving as the first point of contact for public inquiries.
Major Responsibilities
Communicate effectively with all team members
Enter all revenue / expenses into accounting software
Provide feedback for efficiencies in processes and systems
Assist in analyzing financial strengths and weaknesses of the affiliate, proposing corrective action when required
Assure accuracy and timeliness in providing financial data to the executive team and each department's directors and management so they can make informed decisions
Effectively propose solutions to financial problems or unforeseen financial difficulties as they arise
Advise the finance department on strategic direction based on financial and operational data.
Carry Out and / or Supervise Financial Activities Such As :
Prepare daily deposits from all sources (i.e. donations, mortgage and rent payments, home repair loan payments, etc.)
Prepare the daily Restore revenue report and prepare deposit slip
Collect receipts for all daily expenditures from each department
Monitor banking / bank balances
Prepare / review financial reports as needed / requested for the affiliate staff
Accept and process loan, mortgage, and rent payments both face-to-face and over the phone
Assist in analyzing revenue / expenses for all fundraising events
Pay all vendor invoices and document payments in QuickBooks
Reconcile QuickBooks to Mortgage Office software with support and reports provided by mortgage department staff
Enter payroll hours into payroll processing website, ensuring accurate employee personal information collection and accurate data entry.
Prepare payroll reports, allocating salary and benefits to each department / class in QuickBooks
Meet with outside accountant monthly to assist in reconciling bank statements to QuickBooks and assist in preparation of month-end reports such as the Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, Budget to Actual, and the Financial Dashboard
Assist in coordination and organization of all financial records reviewed during annual internal and external audits
Meet face-to-face and virtually, as needed, with directors and management to provide financial comparatives of past fiscal years revenue and expenses to the current fiscal year
Provide financial data for Strategic Management meetings
Meet with the Board Treasurer and external Accounting Team several times per fiscal year to review financial reports.
Manage vendor relationships as it pertains to payment of invoices in a timely manner
Assist the Executive Director and finance team in the interviewing, hiring, and onboarding process for new employees
Other duties as assigned by director
Qualifications
Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
2+ years bookkeeping / accounting experience; nonprofit experience a plus.
Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial data.
Good communication and customer service skills for working with staff, vendors, and the public.
