Job Summary

This position involves the development of and ensures compliance with clinical study protocols that involve human subjects. Oversees and resolves operational aspects of clinical studies or trials in conjunction with project teams and in accordance with standard operating procedures and good clinical practice and regulations. May be responsible for finances, clinical operations, and site and vendor selection.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position

  • Clinical Trial Professional Certification
  • Certification from a professional society (e.g., SOCRA or ACRP) is required within one year of hire.
  • Biomedical Researcher Certification (CITI) - Required
  • Must complete the CITI Biomedical Researcher certification prior to or shortly after hire.
  • Master's degree or doctorate degree in a related field. (Bachelor's degree with extensive relevant experience may be considered in exceptional cases.)
  • Experience in clinical or laboratory research within a university, academic medical center, or healthcare setting.
  • Experience in clinical research operations, including protocol implementation, participant enrollment, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in data management and fiscal stewardship, including maintaining research databases, supporting budgets, grants, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements.
  • Experience supervising, training, mentoring, and evaluating staff with diverse educational backgrounds.
  • Working knowledge of research design and health informatics
  • Broad knowledge of clinical or laboratory research and clinical research philosophy. Demonstrated ability to translate clinical research philosophy into business best practices in a trial setting.
  • Demonstrated project management skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, prioritize projects and meet the demands of a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Adaptable to quickly changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing people with a wide range of educational backgrounds and skills. Demonstrated management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others. Demonstrated experience in training others in the field of research.
  • Demonstrates good problem-solving and analytical skills. Creatively addresses complex or new problems.
  • Strong communicator; includes verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. Clear and concise communicator. Ability to influence and negotiate.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including but not limited to : problem-solving, teamwork development, leadership, mentorship. Interpersonal skills to effectively motivate others. Works well with others to achieve common goals. Ability to cultivate relationships with multiple stakeholders at various levels of administration.
  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software. Effectively uses campus' clinical information and documentation application programs. Proven ability utilizing clinical trial management systems. Proven ability to effectively coordinate and integrate programs with others in division, department, and organization.

    The department has over $12 million in external research funding which supports multi-disciplinary research in neuroscience, cancer, computational pathology, and healthcare delivery science, and co-leads the Center for Diagnostic Innovation. Education is provided at many different levels, including highly ranked required courses and electives for medical students, 13-person residency program, 6 fellowships, and participation in graduate programs. Departmental academic operations are conducted within central administrative offices in various locations at the Medical Center in Sacramento and in research space on both the Sacramento and Davis campuses.

    Department Specific Job Scope

    This position with UC Davis Center for Diagnostic Innovation (CDXI), will direct operational aspects of clinical studies and trials in conjunction with varying project teams, in accordance with regulatory and standard protocol. This role will also be responsible for financial and clinical operations of the CDXI and oversee staff members. With the CDXI investigational laboratory receiving Federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) certification, the Center can offer patient testing and expanded operations ensuring timely test results. This role will play a pivotal part in developing new clinical tests and supporting investigational studies.
