This recruitment is for Academy Trained or Lateral applicants only (see qualification details below).
Academy Trained Applicants : Currently in a POST-certified academy program or graduated from a POST-certified academy program within the past six (6) months.
Lateral Applicants : Currently employed (and completed probation) as a Peace Officer with a POST recognized California Law Enforcement Agency OR currently employed as Peace Officer (and completed probation) in another State combined with a California POST Waiver of Attendance Certificate. Must possess POST Basic certificate (must be attached to application).
Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties involved in the enforcement of laws and the prevention of crimes; controls traffic flow and enforces State and local traffic regulations; participates in and conducts a variety of criminal investigations; provides support and assistance to special crime prevention and law enforcement programs; and performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of law enforcement services and activities.
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and / or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Education / Training / Experience : Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Bilingual skills are highly desirable.
Must be at least 21 years of age; U.S. citizen or resident alien who has applied for citizenship at the time of application; must possess a valid Class C California driver's license; must be free of felony criminal convictions or those involving moral turpitude; must meet POST guidelines for both near and far vision, the ability to distinguish colors and acute hearing, sufficient to perform all of the essential functions of the position;
Physical Demands : requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, running, jumping, reaching, twisting, turning, crawling, climbing, kneeling, bending, crouching, squatting, stooping; getting in and out of a patrol vehicle for up to 100 times per day and the ability to lift up to 165 pounds in the performance of daily activities; work outdoors in all weather conditions; work in hazardous situations which may involve abusive persons, potential physical violence and the potential risk of exposure to cold, heat, noise, vibration, explosive materials and biological, chemical, mechanical and electrical hazards in the performance of law enforcement duties.
Work Schedule : This position works on a rotating shift basis and will require working nights, weekends, and holidays. The Chief of Police shall have the discretion to modify work schedules to meet the needs of the City.

The successful candidate must pass a thorough background check which may include medical exam, drug screening, employment history verification, DMV check, and fingerprinting.
