A Gills Point S Mechanic is a skilled and detail-oriented position and critical to the success of our team. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of vehicles and machinery, ensuring that they operate safely and efficiently.

You will work on various systems within the vehicle, including the engine, transmission, brakes, and electrical system, among others.

This role requires a strong understanding of automotive technology and proficiency in using diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve issues.

A level 1 Mechanic must be confident and capable in the following services : Brakes, Suspension / Steering, Charging Systems, & Basic Tune-Ups.

RESPONSIBILITIES to include, but are not limited to :

  • Two ASE Certifications : A4 - Steering and Suspension; A5 - Brakes
  • Conducting visual inspections of the vehicle for signs of wear or damage.
  • Understanding of basic car components. (Suspension, brakes, Steering, wiper blades, dash lights, Head / Tail Lights, etc..)
  • Proper Lifting Procedures :
  • Evaluating vehicle or trailer and lift using proper equipment in accordance to safety protocols.
  • Proficient in brake inspection, repair, and replacement, ensuring safe and efficient brake system operation.
  • Knowledge of brake components, including pads, rotors, calipers, and brake lines, with the ability to perform accurate diagnostics and maintenance.
  • Competence in inspecting and repairing suspension components to ensure vehicle stability and ride comfort.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and addressing issues related to shocks, struts, control arms, and other suspension parts.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing steering components, including the steering rack, power steering pump, and tie rods, to ensure precise and safe vehicle control.
  • Ability to perform steering system inspections, alignments, and adjustments for optimal steering responsiveness and alignment.
  • Capability to diagnose and repair charging system components, such as the alternator and battery, to ensure a reliable electrical power supply.
  • Proficiency in testing and replacing faulty alternators, voltage regulators, and batteries to maintain proper electrical functionality in the vehicle.
  • Ability to inspect and replace spark plugs, ignition wires, air filters, and fuel filters, cooling system, compression to improve engine performance and fuel efficiency.
  • Proficiency in setting ignition timing and adjusting carburetors or fuel injection systems for optimal engine operation.
  • Interacting with customers to understand their tire needs and provide recommendations.
  • Proper greeting and phone etiquette.
  • Maintaining and calibrating equipment, such as lifts and any specialty area equipment.
  • Inspecting tires for defects and ensuring they meet safety standards.
  • Maintaining records of repairs and other services performed.
  • Adhering to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents or injuries.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required, vocational training or technical training program in automotive service technology or a related field preferred.
  • ASE Certification preferred, or a willingness to attain it with our full support and assistance.
  • 2-4 years of hands-on practical experience.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools is essential.
  • A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Problem-Solving Skills : Ability to quickly identify issues and develop solutions is critical.
  • Attention to Detail : Precision in diagnosing problems and making repairs is necessary to ensure vehicles and machinery are operating safely and efficiently.
  • Physical Stamina and Dexterity : often work in physically demanding environments and must be able to handle tools and components comfortably.
  • Organizational Skills : Keeping track of multiple repairs, parts orders, and schedules requires strong organizational capabilities.
  • Willingness to Continue Learning : As technology advances, ongoing training and education are essential to stay current with automotive trends and techniques.
