Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Diversity Officer serves as part of the Executive Team and partners with senior leaders to shape, advance, and lead the organization's overarching DEI vision and strategy.

The Chief Diversity Officer is a leader, advisor, advocate, catalyst for change, and institutional resource focused on embedding accountability for diversity, equity and inclusion into all programs and activities across the organization.

The Chief Diversity Officer champions diversity, equity and inclusion efforts that influence policies, staffing, culture, products and services, content, marketing, and community engagement.

Under our CRFlex program, this is a hybrid position and is eligible for remote work up to 70%. The successful candidate must reside within 75 miles of our main office locations (Yonkers, NY).

HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT

The Chief Diversity Officer will Establish, implement, and oversee the administration of an enterprise diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic plan, including developing short- and medium-term operating plans that advance long term objectives.

Provide advice and support to leadership in developing and embedding inclusive practices into all aspects of the organization’s operations;

collaborate with leaders to ensure the organization carries out its commitment to serve a diverse stakeholder inclusively, equitably, and authentically.

Other responsibilities include :

  • Coach leaders and staff and provide technical assistance on best practices to help foster a company climate that respects and values diversity and inclusion by building engagement, continually developing an inclusive culture, and meeting the needs of varied abilities and learning approaches of employees.
  • Partner closely with the Chief People Officer to ensure People & Culture priorities align with diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies, including recruitment, career support and progression, policies, compensation, performance, leadership development, as well as employee engagement, retention, and belonging.
  • Develop, implement, and support ongoing education and training programs aimed at strengthening inclusive behaviors and promoting equitable development opportunities for staff at all levels.
  • Lead the work and direction of employee Inclusion Networks and the DEI Council, ensuring staff voice is integrated into equity strategy and practice;

periodically conduct an assessment of the organization’s DEI infrastructure, noting challenges and barriers encountered and recommending appropriate solutions.

Develop and monitor key DEI performance indicators; oversee the collection of data, analyze outcomes against established targets, and modify strategies as necessary to achieve desired results;

with People & Culture, analyze the results of employee engagement surveys and develop targeted action plans to address DEI and belonging concerns.

  • Provide direct strategic guidance, insights, and counsel to the Board of Directors DEI Committee to facilitate the growth and development of individual directors and the advancement of the Board’s DEI objectives.
  • Partner with corporate communications to shape internal communication strategies to promote inclusion and regularly communicate internal and external diversity and inclusion activities, events, and progress.
  • Develop the DEI team by actively identifying relevant strengths and opportunities and providing or securing appropriate coaching, training, and development.
  • Complete training and professional development requirements in a timely manner.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with CRValues, Compliance Program, and other policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as requested.

  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural values and norms of various communities, particularly of communities of color, LGBTQ+, disability communities and individuals with other marginalized identities.
  • Demonstrated command of the elements and dynamics of transforming an organizational culture, and the commitment to see the change through to completion.
  • Track record of building complex , cross functional programs / initiatives from the ground floor and aligning DEI strategy with overall strategic objectives through collaboration and getting buy in on goals and outcomes;

provides key metrics and data to guide DEI road map and measure impact.

  • Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in high conflict situations.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of personal and business integrity and confidentiality and to exercise discretion in handling sensitive situations.
  • Energetic and action-oriented leader with excellent judgment and problem-solving skills along with the ability to exercise influence and diplomacy, establishing effective relationships in a matrixed organization.
  • Superior skill at navigating the political landscape , responding well to sensitive, politically- and / or emotionally charged situations, building consensus, accruing buy-in, and working through competing interests.
  • Willingness to hold others accountable for demonstrating conduct consistent with the organization’s values and to be held accountable for the same.
  • Strong relationship building and communication skills, including an ability to work and build trust across cultural differences related to race, class, age, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin and ability.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Google or Microsoft suite.

  • You have the experience . 10+ years of professional experience in DEI-related roles in a corporate, not for profit or consulting environment.
  • 5+ years of experience exercising primary or significant responsibility for developing and advancing enterprise diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy in a complex organization.
  • 8+ years of experience executing diversity-related tactical work (e.g., human resources, organizational assessment; strategic planning;

development, implementation, or management of diversity initiatives; diversity training or facilitation experience).

  • 5+ years of experience managing teams.
  • You can handle multiple projects Demonstrated track record in challenging and influencing peers to approach all work with an equity lens.
  • You understand the DEI landscape. Experience developing and / or implementing equity-focused education and training programs.
  • Passion for Consumer Reports’ mission.
  • You have the education. An advanced degree in human resources management, law, business, education, sociology, psychology, or related field.
  • Diversity Certification from an established college, university, or professional association.
  • Current knowledge of developments in federal, state, and local employment laws including Title VII, ADA, and ADEA.

FAIR PAY & A JUST WORKPLACE

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation.

The target salary range for this position is $300k to $350k. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range.

Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
