Mobility Trainer

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Conducts in-home personal assessments, administering a variety of tests and interview techniques to identify various skill levels to determine feasibility of travel training.
• Conducts "path of travel " review to identify barriers to successful independent travel. Based on the ability level and goals of the individual, develops a personalized plan of instruction;
• Provides one-on-one field training to all customers including those with physical and / or developmental disabilities on how to ride a bus safely.
• Ensures trainees have proper pedestrian skills to safely navigate sidewalks and street crossings;
• Meet with other organizations about the travel training program;
• Communicates with customer and their support network. Instructs trainees on how to advocate for selves. Develops strategies for trainees to use when lost or confused in travel.
• Instructs trainees on how to handle unusual or emergency situations;
• Schedules and conducts the Travel Training Intake interview and set the Individual Travel Training Plan (ITTP) for each individual entering the program;
• Completes all reports associated with the trainee, including initial intake and assessment, goal setting and plan; progress evaluations and final report;
• Assists Mobility Services staff with conducting environmental barrier analyses as needed;
• May be required to be available through a mobile device via voice and / or data during and outside of normal working hours, at the manager's discretion, and must respond within a reasonable timeframe; and
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Regular, predictable and punctual attendance required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Requires an Associate's Degree in medical or education field and three (3) years of experience in a customer service environment, working with the elderly and / or people with physical and developmental disabilities;

or an equivalent combination of education and experience in business or public administration.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Orientation & Mobility Specialist certification preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Knowledge of workforce development issues and an understanding of Mobility Management concepts and transportation services;
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project;
• Skills in verbal and written communication;
• Skills in human relations;
• Ability to work with diverse cultures and socio-economic populations; and
• Ability to define problems, research issues and develop logical and practical solutions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects and the following additional physical abilities :

Balancing : Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.

The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.

• Hearing 1 : Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
• Hearing 2 : Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
• Mental Acuity : Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
• Speaking : Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
• Standing : Particularly for sustained periods of time.
• Talking 1 : Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Talking 2 : Shouting in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
• Visual Acuity 1 : Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as : preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing;

viewing a computer terminal; and / or extensive reading.

• Visual Acuity 2 : Including color, depth perception, and field vision.
• Visual Acuity 3 : Visual Acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
• Walking : Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

EMERGENCY DESIGNATION

E-E Essential Employees : Employees designated as E-E are deemed critical to business operations and their physical presence at work during a Declared State of Emergency is required.

If an employee is absent, they will be expected to follow normal call-off procedures.
