Job Summary
This entry level / early career professional, applied technology position creates and integrates electrical and electronic hardware that is essential to Cummins products. People in these positions will typically develop and validate electronic sensors, actuators, control units, harnesses, wiring practices, or control systems and associated analog and digital signals to ensure the consistent operation of Cummins' products in a variety of customer applications.
Key Responsibilities
Investigates electronic hardware problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results with guidance from more experienced team members. Applies and supports the improvement of electronic hardware development processes and tools. Processes include, basic problem solving techniques, familiarity with hardware development process, and requirements analysis. Applies knowledge of design methods such as worst case analysis, circuit simulation, DFMEA / PFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), schematic capture, Specification Compliance Matrix (or equivalent). Obtains input and collaborates with electronic suppliers and delivers prototype hardware to application engineering teams. Makes decisions in the areas of hardware requirements, validation test that impact unit cost, functionality, and prototype delivery. Owns problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems or services with technical complexity and ambiguity increasing as experience is gained in the role. Provides independent execution of established work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge; engages with the improvement of systems and processes. Involves no direct management of people, but could involve the coordination and direction of work amongst technicians and / or temporary student employees. Contributes effectively toward team goals, exhibits influence within a work group and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role.

College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience
Entry level / Early career professional. Preferred candidates would have relevant experience working in either a temporary student employment environment (intern, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities) or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline area. Knowledge of MS Office tools is also preferred.

Job Skill Requirements : This role will entail ownership and development for a variety of electronic components and subsystems that are part of the overall electric powertrain. The role will support multiple applications / programs at a given time. The engineer will need to be able to take on a variety of tasks and work independently and within a small team. The position will work directly with cross-functional engineering teams to create all required mechanical and electrical interfaces related to the a HV component to make a fully functioning EV vehicle. Development, testing and release of electrical hardware requires knowledge of electrical systems and interactions between controls, electrical and mechanical aspects. The most complex problems come in the form of issues that are not easily reproducible. This often requires creativity and thinking outside the box to come up with test methods to try and reproduce the issue and collect the right data to understand it and get to a solution. Their may be a need to develop a new process or design since a lot of the work we do in the electric powertrain development is new or has only been done in CMI for a short amount of time.
