Overview :
The equipment manager reports to the golf course superintendent and / or the assistant golf course superintendent and oversees the preventative maintenance program for the golf course assets.
This program includes the diagnostics and repair of failing equipment, keeping records of the parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment and ordering necessary parts and supplies needed to maintain equipment.
Communication skills are a must. The equipment manager communicates any issues related to maintenance and repair schedules and directs the work assignments.
Safety is a top priority and is the responsibility of the equipment manager. He / she must maintain a clean service area and maintenance building.
Functions :
- Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical failures and defects on various pieces of machinery including diesel, electric and gas-powered autos, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, mowers etc.
- Instructs and trains maintenance workers on safe operation, preventatives, and the cleaning of machinery.
- Ability to prioritize repairs and maintenance work.
- Must maintain a budget when ordering repair parts and replacement supplies.
- Keep complete records of equipment, parts purchases, equipment condition, cost of repairs and maintenance.
- Overseas the shop area cleanliness and maintenance.
- Spot checks equipment for performance, conducts emergency repairs on the grounds and makes sure the equipment is properly fixed and safe to use.
- Regulates employee’s use of the equipment.
- Recommends equipment purchases and leases.
Employment Standards :
- Working knowledge of light and heavy equipment and auto apparatuses.
- Skills in the use of tools and making various types of repairs.
- Working knowledge of theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines.
- Safety and precautions knowledge.
- Ability to lift / move heavy objects.
- Ability to diagnose failures.
- Proficient in computer use. Microsoft office and other applications.
- Communication skills and ability to keep records.
- Knowledge of golf and understanding of how proper maintenance can affect the game.
- Must have valid drivers license and a CDL is encouraged but not required.
