At Kids Unlimited we recognize the importance of healthy food. We know that many of our children suffer from hunger and often do not have access to proper nutrition outside of school. This is why we have made it a priority to incorporate nutrition education, an incredible school food program and garden education into what we do here at Kids Unlimited. We have a partnership with Rogue Valley Farm to School which enables our students to have access to farm field trips We also have a partnership with OSU Extension who provide our students with nutrition and cooking classes right here in their classrooms. Our food program gives each and every one of our students access to free breakfast, lunch and dinner at our school each day. We cook every single one of our school meals from scratch in our full kitchen.

Job Summary :

The Afternoon Kitchen Lead / Meal Delivery Driver will helps to prepare nutritious food, then serves meals to children. This role will also be responsible for the transportation of off site dinner meals Monday-Friday by helping pack meals, load meals to the vehicle, and transport meals to several off site school locations. Also assist with overall kitchen duties such as washing dishes, cleaning / sanitizing, and inventory; serves as a role model for the children in their attitudes and habits toward food; responsible for following Kids Unlimited policies and procedures. Responsible for following USDA, CACFP and NSLP requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES :

FOOD TRANSPORTATION

  • Transport dinner meals to off site locations in a timely manner
  • Able to load off site dinner bags and insulated boxes into vehicle
  • Keep an accurate milk count to ensure accuracy at time of delivery

MEALS / FOOD

  • Prepare nutritious and appealing meals and snacks that meet needs / interests of children K-8, following NSLP / CACFP guidelines.
  • Work from written menu and standard recipes;
  • Ensure food is tasty and presented in an appetizing way;
  • Foods prepared are in compliance with program rules and Dietary Guidelines;
  • Meals are planned and prepared for serving at specified meal times
  • CLOSE KITCHEN

  • Close the kitchen and the Kids Unlimited building if needed for daily operations;
  • Ensure a safe working environment;
  • Perform closing procedures on all kitchen equipment;
  • DOCUMENTATION / RECORD KEEPING

  • Complete paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Maintain accurate meal counts for all groups served;
  • Record refrigerator / freezer temperatures daily;
  • Record food temperatures at all meals;
  • SANITATION AND SAFETY

  • Follow and adhere to safe food handling and sanitation standards according to program requirements and procedures.
  • Follow suggestions or requirements of county sanitarian, i.e., following all applicable rules, regulations, and policies;
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment in the kitchen and food storage areas at all times;
  • Wash all dishes, utensils and cookware following established procedures;
  • Follow all necessary precautions in food preparation to avoid health hazards.
  • Display required posters in appropriate areas.
  • Follow hand washing, first aid and other health and safety routines in accordance with procedures.
  • OTHER DUTIES

    May be assigned other related duties as appropriate and within the scope of general responsibilities for this position. However the nature of what we do and how we succeed at Kids Unlimited requires that the scope of every position may periodically change based on operational demands to ensure we are meeting or exceeding every student's and organizational needs.

    REQUIRED JOB SPECIFICATIONS

    Education : High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

    Certification or Accreditation : Food Handlers or ServSafe Certification

    Experience : Minimum two year's experience cooking and food preparation for large groups of people preferred.

    Essential Skills : Excellent verbal and written English language communication skills. Ability to complete food preparation within the required time frames.

    Essential Mental Abilities : Must have knowledge of state food sanitation regulations. Ability to multitask; exercise logical judgment, analyze, organize and prioritize. Ability to work as a team member and to be self directed. Ability to maintain confidential information.

    Essential Physical Requirements : Ability to frequently lift / carry up to 50 lbs a distance of 25 feet. Ability to frequently push / pull up to 50 lbs. a distance of 20 yards. Sufficient mobility, strength and range of motion to perform repetitive standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, reaching, squatting or kneeling, twisting and climbing step stools for up to 8 hours per day. Sufficient stamina to perform job duties at frequency required. Sufficient vision and hearing to perform job duties. Sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform job duties. Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

    Exposure Hazards : Hazardous chemicals, kitchen equipment, hot water, contagious conditions, work with pc, and driving and riding in motor vehicles. Working in kitchens and education centers, frequent local travel.
