Pathways is hiring a Technical Writer. Job Purpose :
We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer in supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs.You will be responsible for preparing and / or maintaining systems, programming, operations documentation, procedures and methods including user and reference manuals.You will assist in maintaining a current internal documentation library and assist in phases of documentation services as necessary.Duties & Responsibilities :
Ability to review technical / management documents and provide comments and feedback on accuracy, completeness, consistency, grammar, and overall quality.Ability to work independently and / or with other administrative and support staff in supporting multiple projects simultaneously and analyzing subject material and audiences while producing clear documentation and prioritizing daily tasks in order to effectively manage production time.Responsible for preparing and / or maintaining systems, programming, operations documentation, procedures, and methods including user and reference manuals.Maintains a current internal documentation library.Perform desktop publishing, including formatting, writing, and editing client deliverables with an eye for detail.Review and support project documentation to ensure validity, completeness of content, and consistency with order, style, terminology standard and Section 508 compliance; interface with customer to determine needs.Conducts research for initiatives and provides relevant content for a variety of stakeholders across the program and projects.Creates strategic user copy across various platforms that is compelling, easy to understand and concise.Collaborates with executive teams and groups to create a framework and process for continuously improving and testing new content.Repurposes content for a variety of audiences / stakeholders and uses.Performs quality control of content.Translates complex data into user-friendly text for print and electronic publications, such as SharePoint, portals, websites, and podcasts for a variety of audiences.Selects or recommends use of layouts, graphics, drawings, tables, exhibits, illustrations, charts, or storyboards to amplify or clarify publication objectives.Perform other duties that may arise within the scope of the task order.Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, a technical or business discipline, or a related field is required and 2+ years of experience.Experience in meeting with authors and other team representatives to review documents, compile inputs / corrections, resolve incompatible comments, and provide final publishable documentation. Experience in explaining scientific and technical ideas that are difficult for the average reader to understand, using simple language.Knowledge of VA’s style guide, programs, policies, and regulations related to Veteran benefits.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders at all levels.Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams, or other editing and GUI editing software.A proven track record in creating, editing, or improving briefings and visual materials (charts, graphs, PowerPoint presentations, informational graphics).Highly organized and detail oriented with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in ever-changing work environment.Preferred Qualifications :
4+ years of experience in a related field, with a focus on writing and producing narrative and graphic materials.Proven ability to identify and correct grammatical, formatting, and logic errors, as well as to detect logical inconsistencies requiring author attention.Experience working with the Department of Veterans Affairs or other federal healthcare organizations.Highly organized and detail oriented with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in ever-changing work environment.Experience in meeting with authors and other team representatives to review documents, compile inputs / corrections, resolve incompatible comments, and provide final publishable documentation. Flexibility, ingenuity, creativity, diplomacy, and a willingness to learn and adapt Knowledge of and success performing in a role within a Project Management Office for large programs in the federal government environment.Work Environment and Physical Requirements :
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.Travel :
