Senior Director Of Jewish Life

Purpose : The Mishkon Division provides support and services in a healthy and safe environment for adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I / DD) in residential programs and in the community. This is all accomplished within an Orthodox Jewish environment that upholds Orthodox Jewish values and practices in all the Mishkon programs.

Position Overview : Reporting to the Executive Program Director, the Senior Director of Jewish Life is responsible for working with leadership and staff to ensure that all Mishkon programs and services integrate and adhere to Orthodox principles. This role involves providing leadership, strategic direction, and oversight to maintain the religious integrity and cultural identity of the programs for the benefit of individuals. The Senior Director is also the primary contact for families, engaging families, communicating regularly with them and collaborating with program staff to address any concerns they may have. The Sr. Director of Jewish Life directly supervises assigned staff and is part of the Mishkon leadership team.

Key Essential Functions :

• Leadership and Vision : Provide strategic leadership to ensure that all programs align with orthodox Jewish values and practices. Develop and implement policies and procedures that uphold the religious standards of the programs. Serve as a role model and mentor for staff and community members, promoting a culture of respect and religious observance. Collaborate with program staff to integrate Jewish education, traditions, and rituals into program activities. Maintain regular contact with Rabbis overseeing and guiding Mishkon. Partner and work collaboratively with the EPD and Deputy Directors at Mishkon to achieve goals.
• Family Engagement and Communication : Serve as the primary point of contact for families, ensuring consistent, compassionate, and clear communication. Build trusting relationships with families to support their understanding of services, rights, and available resources. Facilitate regular family meetings, updates, and feedback sessions to ensure family voices are heard and integrated into care planning. Organize workshops or informational sessions for families on relevant topics (e.g., transition planning, behavioral support). Document family contact in the EHR.
• Community Engagement : Foster strong relationships and partnerships with community leaders, religious authorities, and other stakeholders to support community integration for individuals and to enhance support networks for families. Represent the organization at community events and other public forums.
• Staff Development and Supervision : Provide guidance, support and training to staff to enhance their understanding and implementation of orthodox Jewish values and practices. Director supervision of assigned staff, including Shabbos workers and part-time Family Liaison.
• Compliance and Quality Assurance : Ensure that all programs adhere to religious laws and organizational policies. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making adjustments as necessary to maintain high standards of quality and compliance. Utilize data and key metrics to assess success and engage in performance improvement.

Core Competencies :

Educational / Training Required : High school diploma with some college or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required, with a master's degree preferred OR (Orthodox) Rabbinic Ordination.

Experience Required / Language Preference : Minimum of 5 years in a leadership position in a healthcare, social service, Orthodox religious organization or similar entity. Prior experience, either professionally or lived experience, with IDD services and systems. Prior experience, either professionally or lived experience, in an Orthodox Jewish organization. English speaking, Hebrew preferred.

Computer Skills Required : Must be able to navigate Office 365. Familiarity with electronic health records.

Visual and Manual Dexterity : The candidate should be able to read documents for analytical purposes such as computer information, software, computer graphic design programs, business analytical dashboards, etc. Limited applications of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Work Environment / Physical Effort : The position requires the ability to travel throughout Brooklyn. Regularly required to sit for up to 90% of the day. Hybrid work environment.
