Responsibilities

Reported to the Director of Construction Management within the Division of Facilities Management and Real Estate (FMRE), the Construction Project Manager is responsible for managing, planning, building, operating, and maintaining facilities projects in support of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Mission, core values, and strategic plan.

  • Develops and implements facility management policies and procedures.
  • Directs architectural and engineering design, planning, review, and management of construction, remodeling, and maintenance projects for building and facilities.
  • Participates in space planning and in the development of design layouts and floor plans.
  • Works with other members of Facilities Department and Finance Department to develop budgets and monitor expenditures; works with clinical, administrative, and research departments to develop and coordinate individual departmental proposals for renovations.
  • Works with design team, project manager must be capable of overseeing development of bid specifications, bidding process, and award of contracts.

Incumbent needs to be skilled in project management including planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of projects.

Works with architects, contractors, and client departments to develop project work plans, timelines, implementation strategies, oversee construction, and develop punch lists, evaluation measures, etc.

  • From time to time, the project manager will develop and oversee service and equipment maintenance contracts.
  • May participate in the review and evaluation of space requests.
  • May participate in the review and inspection of sites under consideration for leasing.
  • May be asked from time to time to represent the Facilities Department with a variety of internal committees such as Patient Family Advisory Council, Space Planning Committees, Safety Committee, Emergency Preparedness Committee, etc.
  • May also represent institution in meetings with regulatory agencies, other institutions, and in neighborhood planning issues coordinated by Longwood Collective.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience required.
  • 5 years of construction and project management experience within the healthcare and / or research environment required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • Familiarity or interest in CAD programs, various project management software programs, spreadsheets, databases, and graphics.
  • Ability to write technical reports, prepare and make presentations to groups.
  • Ability to plan, facilitate, and conduct meetings.
  • Ability to measure, evaluate, and communicate program performance.
  • Working knowledge of building, safety, and fire codes.
  • Basic knowledge of management practices.
  • Ability to influence decision making in operational and energy management areas without benefit of true supervisory responsibilities.
  • Oversee the work of consultants performing the work of the project.
