Art & Motion Graphics Director

Vox is looking for an experienced art and motion graphics director to work across video, podcast, and text. The art and motion graphics director will oversee design and animation across various formats, and work towards visual excellence across all platforms.

Top candidates will have a portfolio of creative work that has pushed the creative boundaries of brand design. This person will bring creative ideas for how to approach visual storytelling across the newsroom and be experienced in various areas of design, including typography, motion and data visualization.

They will have professional expertise using Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Strong editorial judgement, superb communication skills, and impeccible organizational skills are critical for this role, as you will work closely with editorial leadership, video producers, and freelancers to elevate our storytelling through compelling design and motion graphics.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Design visuals for Vox across a variety of formats and platforms, including videos, podcasts, social channels, text, and newsletters.

Create original assets for video and video podcasts.

Manage art deliverables from freelancers for video production.

Collaborate closely with editorial leadership, Vox's other art director, and video producers.

Provide art direction and graphic supervision for video packages for visual clarity and adhering to the Vox style guide.

Mentor video producers to develop their own visual style within the Vox universe.

Manage the progress of design and animation skills around the video team.

Own & iterate on Vox video style guides in the form of tools, templates, and rules.

Provide clear and constructive notes when delivering feedback across formats to newsroom colleagues.

Adhere to all journalistic and legal standards at all times.

Complete additional duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

5+ years of digital design experience with a portfolio demonstrating strong, relevant work.

A passion for Vox's mission of helping audiences understand what really matters.

Deep familiarity with Vox's video voice and style.

Superb design taste and attention to detail and accuracy.

Experience and comfort with providing visual feedback.

Experience in editing.

Experience in finding and collecting relevant archival footage and material.

Creative drive to explore new approaches to visual storytelling.

Awareness of what media competitors are doing in this space.

Strong communication, organizational and time-management skills.

Collaborative team player who will enjoy working across the organization

PAY TRANSPARENCY

The salary range listed below represents the minimum and maximum base pay for this position at the time of this posting. Final salary offered to the candidate selected for the position will be based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience.
