Position Summary :
Essential Properties Realty Trust (NYSE : EPRT) is a publicly traded net-lease Real Estate
Investment Trust located in Princeton, New Jersey that primarily invests in single-tenant,
operationally essential real estate assets across a wide variety of industries within the service, retail
and industrial sectors throughout the United States.
The Associate Real Estate Counsel will work within the Investment Team and report directly to
SVP, Real Estate Counsel. This role will direct outside counsel on acquisitions, loans, and
development transactions and work with the Investment Team (both Deal Managers and Closers)
during the life-cycle of an acquisition transaction.
Responsibilities :
- Direct and oversee outside counsels during life-cycle of acquisition
- Lead all aspects of closing schedule and oversee status of acquisitions for timely closings
- Initial design of acquisition and loan structures
- Analyze and respond to outside counsel on due diligence concerns and risk analysis (title / survey / zoning / environmental)
- Collaborate with outside counsel and internal parties on negotiations and participate in same as necessary
- Final review of Purchase and Sale Agreements / Leases / Construction Disbursement documents with assistance from Closing Team and outside counsels
- Assist Deal Managers with initial lease reviews, structuring, and general legal input
- Final approval of Settlement Statements
- Participate in Company-wide process improvement initiatives
- Design and lead internal education sessions as needed
- Assist with other projects as assigned
Education, Work Experience, and Other Requirements :
Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited ABA law schoolNo less than four years legal experience representing REIT clients, with particular experience in the sale leaseback, triple net spaceStrong commercial real estate law backgroundProfessional communication skills, both oral and writtenAbility to work independently and take initiative to seek guidance as appropriateSolid organizational and administrative skills, including performing duties with a high degree of accuracy and timelinessIn-office attendance in Princeton, New Jersey required four days per week
