Job Title : Medical Appointment Clerk
Location : Fleet and Family Medicine Clinic, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA 23708
Second Location : Medical Home Family Medicine / Primary Care Clinic, Sewells Point Clinic, Norfolk, VA 23511
Work Schedule : Monday Friday, 0700 1600 (8.5-hour shift including 30-minute meal break)
Qualifications :
- Education : High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of training as a medical clerk or sufficient on-the-job training in a healthcare administrative role.
- Experience : Minimum 1 year of experience in a medical or clinical environment providing administrative support. Knowledge of medical terminology, basic computer skills, and typing at least 20 WPM.
- License / Certification : Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA or ARC).
- References : 2 professional letters of recommendation written within the last 3 years.
Responsibilities :
Schedule, coordinate, and manage patient appointments in accordance with clinic procedures and government guidelines.Greet, verify, and check in patients, ensuring accuracy of personal and insurance information.Maintain patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations at all times.Assist with referral processing and scheduling follow-up appointments to ensure continuity of care.Update and maintain patient records within the MHS GENESIS system or other authorized databases.Review and track patient medical readiness status, ensuring compliance with required screenings and assessments.Assist patients in completing digital forms (DD forms) and provide guidance on clinic check-in procedures.Verify patient enrollment and appointment disposition (check-out, no-show, cancellation) per MTF Standard Operating Procedures.Communicate professionally with medical staff, patients, and other departments to resolve scheduling conflicts and enhance patient satisfaction.Support front-desk operations including answering phones, filing records, and other administrative tasks as assigned.Maintain a courteous, professional, and service-oriented demeanor in all patient interactions.Prime Physicians is a physician-led, The Joint Commission (TJC) Accredited, ISO 9001 certified and CMMI Level 3 appraised organization.
