Entry Level Process Engineer

OVERVIEW

S&B is actively searching for an entry level Process Engineer to join our team in Kingsport, TN. Under close supervision, the Process Engineer I performs routine assignments which are clearly defined and require the application of standard Process Engineering theories, principles and concepts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May provide some technical guidance for design personnel..

EDUCATION

Normally requires at least a four-year degree in Chemical Engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Entry-level position requiring 0-2 years of work experience in process design or a related functional area.
• Relevant internship / co-op experience strongly preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Solid understanding of basic chemical engineering principles (fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, etc.) and their application.
• Good interpersonal skills; capable of interfacing directly with the client.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is a plus.
• Experience reading / developing piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) is a plus.
• Experience with pump and line sizing calculations is a plus.
• Experience with pressure relief calculations is a plus.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works with the client to develop detailed scopes of work for capital projects.
• Conducts field trips to gather operating data and equipment information.
• Develops piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), line lists, and tie-in lists.
• Designs / evaluates overpressure protection systems for new and existing equipment.
• Performs basic process calculations
• Provides process information and design guidance to other engineering disciplines.
• Participates in process safety reviews.
• Prepares routine technical reports.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally, may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at an construction site.

This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
