Job Title : Admissions and Disposition Clerk
Location : Patient Administration Department, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, 620 John Paul Jones Circle, Portsmouth, VA 23708
Work Schedule : Monday Friday, 0700 1530 (8.5-hour shift including 30-minute meal break; schedule may vary within 0730 1700)
Qualifications :
- Education : High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience : 2 years of administrative or front desk experience, with 1 year in a hospital or medical setting. Must type 60 WPM, be proficient in Microsoft Office, and possess knowledge of hospital procedures and medical terminology.
- License / Certification : Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA or ARC).
Responsibilities :
Serve as the first point of contact for patient admissions, discharges, and transfers within the hospital's Patient Administration Department.Perform data entry and record management for all patient movements using approved systems such as MHS GENESIS and DMHRSi.Process all required admission and disposition forms, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with government regulations.Provide courteous and professional telephone and in-person assistance to patients, families, staff, and command personnel regarding patient status and hospital services.Maintain and update logs and reports on patient admissions, transfers, and discharges for daily and monthly reporting.Prepare, edit, and finalize a wide range of documents, correspondence, and reports, ensuring proper formatting, grammar, and adherence to policies.Manage and safeguard patient information, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and military health information security policies.Maintain office files, organize patient administrative records, and assist in retrieving or archiving documents.Support the Hospital Command Center with administrative tasks such as routing correspondence, coordinating communication, and maintaining reference materials.Participate in quality assurance and data accuracy reviews, helping to improve administrative efficiency and reporting accuracy.Assist with orientation and training of new staff or contract personnel as requested by government supervisors.Handle sensitive inquiries and patient information discreetly and professionally at all times.Maintain a clean, organized, and professional workspace in compliance with Navy Medical Center policies.Prime Physicians is a physician-led, The Joint Commission (TJC) Accredited, ISO 9001 certified and CMMI Level 3 appraised organization.
