Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper / Accountant to manage our accounting and financial records. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with state and federal regulations, including the complex tax code governing the cannabis industry, such as 280E and 471C.

The ideal candidate should have 2-3 years of accounting experience and be willing to learn and adapt to the unique challenges of cannabis accounting.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Financial Recordkeeping : Maintain and update accurate financial records, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and other financial transactions.
• Bank Reconciliation : Regularly reconcile bank statements and financial accounts to ensure accuracy and detect discrepancies.
• Tax Compliance : Assist in preparing and filing tax returns, with a strong understanding of 280E and 471C regulations, as well as other relevant tax codes.
• Financial Reporting : Generate regular financial reports and statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
• Expense Tracking : Monitor and categorize expenses, ensuring that costs are properly allocated and documented for tax and regulatory purposes.
• Inventory Management : Track and manage inventory records, including product cost accounting and inventory valuation.
• Collaboration : Work closely with the CFO to support budgeting, financial analysis, and strategic financial planning.
• External Accounting Firm Interaction : Collaborate with our external accounting firm to provide necessary information, respond to inquiries, and assist in the annual audit process.
• Regulatory Compliance : Stay up-to-date with cannabis industry regulations and ensure the company remains in compliance with all state and federal requirements.
• Training : Willingness to learn and adapt to the unique requirements of cannabis accounting, including keeping up with changes in regulations and tax codes.

Requirements

• A minimum of 2-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a related industry or in-depth knowledge of complex accounting regulations.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Knowledge or willingness to learn about 280E, 471C, and other cannabis industry-specific accounting regulations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• High level of integrity and ethical responsibility.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is a plus but not required.
