Machine Technician
Our site in Bedford, MA is seeking a machine technician to join our team.
The Machine Technician (MT) is expected to have an excellent mastery of surface finishing & modification technologies such as grinding, and polishing.
Additionally, the individual should understand upstream and downstream manufacturing processes. The individual is able to operate and assess material removal and surface modification processes, as well as train others to do the same.
The position requires technical ability, machine troubleshooting, teamwork, communication, problem-solving skills, and the willingness to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This position will report to Production Cell Manager
The MT works directly with operations and engineering to troubleshoot, develop, experiment, and make continuous improvements.
The MT will help to train new technicians on the processes and should be able to provide in-depth explanation of the processes and tools, as well as provide historical context for both.
In addition, the MT will help track, monitor, and execute development activities on the manufacturing floor. MT will work directly with the operation and engineering teams to develop a plan or make suggestions to an existing plan and communicate the intent of the plan and ensure it gets executed and tracked correctly.
The MT also will have responsibility to the production floor to assist in training, to lend technical advice and disseminate knowledge.
They will also look for ways to improve the production process and flow, whether through tool layout, SOP updates, minor equipment maintenance and the like.
What You’ll Do :
- Perform surface processing equipment (such as grinding and polishing equipment) setup, operation, shutdown, and other associated process steps to meet all standards for safety, quality and efficiency.
- Solve processing problems effectively with minimal impact to yield, lead time and throughput.
- Analyze process and test data and correctly determine necessary actions to achieve desired quality, yield, and efficiency.
- Aids engineering and operations in manufacturing continuous improvement and new product introduction including fixture design and support for new product design, process development, equipment and process validations.
- Tracks, monitors and communicates status of development work orders in progress.
- Troubleshoot and identify potential solutions for mechanical errors, safety issues or general operating inefficiencies within the production processes.
- Able to follow specifications, work orders, and SOP’s provided by Process Engineer, Development Engineer and Production Supervisor.
Will also provide feedback, updates and assist in redlining same documents.
- Safely follow standard operating procedures including but not limited to material handling, record keeping, process spec and ensuring all team members are adhering to proper PPE.
- Notifies Process Engineer and / or Production Supervisor of any discrepancies to ensure quality standards and safety of operations are always maintained.
- Excellent attention to detail, good organization, communication skills and capable of leading and directing other team members.
- Able to work in team environments and cross functional teams to troubleshoot issues, identify and implement corrective actions.
- Must be able to perform V & Q and Gage R & R projects supporting the engineering & operations groups.
