Are you detail-oriented and passionate about accuracy in payroll and financial reporting? The City of South Jordan's Finance Department is seeking a dedicated payroll expert to ensure reliable payroll processing and support the City's financial operations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with payroll and accounting experience who is eager to contribute to a dynamic and service-driven team. The starting rate is typically between $25.32 and $27.85 per hour. Candidates with accounting experience may be considered for pay up to $30.70 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
What You'll Do :
- Process all aspects of payroll according to established deadlines, including Federal and State tax filings W-2s and handling FLSA, Utah Retirement Systems contributions, Worker's Compensation and Workforce Services reporting, garnishments, union dues, and HSA / FSA.
- Prepare, review, and post payroll journal entries and pay payroll liabilities.
- Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and assist with employee benefit reconciliations.
- Provide City employees with top-notch customer service by handling sensitive data in a timely manner using clear communication, de-escalation skills, and smart prioritizing.
- Contribute to the preparation of financial documents, including the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report
- Gather data and assist with internal and external audits.
- Collaborate with the Senior Accountant and Finance team on projects, reconciliations, and reporting needs.
Who You Are :
A high school graduate (or equivalent) with at least four (4) years of payroll processing and general ledger reconciliation experience , or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Eager to learn and always interested in improving processes.Able to deal with a fast-paced information and firm deadlines during payroll weeks.Bondable, with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Knowledgeable in payroll policies, procedures, federal and state statutes (FLSA, Utah Retirement Systems, tax status, wage reduction programs, and deferral programs).Proficient in Microsoft Office and financial software systems; experience with ERP systems such as Tyler Tech Munis is preferred.A clear communicator with the ability to establish effective working relationships and handle sensitive information with professionalism.Preferred qualifications include governmental accounting experience, Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), and advanced computer information systems knowledge.Why Join South Jordan?
