Job Description & Requirements Specialty : Med Surg Discipline : RN Start Date : 11 / 10 / 2025 Duration : 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift : 12 hours, days Employment Type : Travel Job Description American Traveler is hiring a Med / Surg RN in a Level II Trauma Center requiring BLS and NIHSS, with a minimum of 18 months recent MS or ICU experience and Cerner or Epic proficiency. Responsibilities Hospital setting with multiple units including Med / Surg, Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Oncology, Clinical Decision, Orthopedics, and Urology Units vary by specialty : trauma surgery, vascular, neuroscience, oncology, clinical decision, orthopedics, and urology Patient ratios typically 1 : 4 but may be up to 1 : 6 depending on the unit, with higher quality care expectations at lower ratios Specialty procedures may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, colostomy / ostomy, PCA pumps, and use of negative pressure dressing Telemetry monitoring required on some units; RNs must interpret and confirm telemetry strips every 4 hours Uses Cerner (preferred) EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors Patient populations include general surgery, vascular, neuro (CVA, TBI, seizure), med / surg-oncology, orthopedic / spine, and urology / ENT cases Shifts are 7a-7p or 7p-7a with a 4-week scheduling cycle and every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month No on-call requirements Floating required to similar units as needed First-time travelers will be considered Unit support includes CNAs, HUC / receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV / VAT team, hospitalists, and telemetry techs RNs are responsible for turning patients, assisting with ADLs and baths, and ensuring high quality care Required to work one major and one minor holiday per facility policy; specific blackout dates apply for time off Scrubs of any color are permitted Orientation includes 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit training for travelers new to the facility or those returning after more than a year Parking available in designated parking deck levels RTO up to 7 days may be approved, not including blackout periods Requirements Active AL or compact RN license in hand or eligibility prior to start BLS and NIHSS certifications required Minimum of 18 months experience in Med / Surg and / or ICU required, with Cerner or Epic EMR experience At least 1 year of trauma / surgical experience is required for trauma surgical units Cerner experience required if previous ICU only No local candidates within a 60 mile radius Must be gone from the facility for 6 months before returning as a traveler Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-620308.
