Job descriptionIntermediate POST certification, additional $500 stipend annually Advanced POST certification, additional $1,000 stipend annually Both POST certifications, additional $1,500 stipend annually Perform routine police tasks according to department rules and regulations Patrol the campus and its perimeter by vehicle, bicycle or on foot; enforce laws, campus regulations, and traffic rules; respond to emergencies Respond to emergency calls, provide first aid, and maintain emergency equipment Investigate violations, prepare reports, and log activities Arrest violators, issue citations, and take fingerprints and photographs Interview suspects, complainants, and witnesses; provide courtroom testimony Operate office equipment and analyze data to develop appropriate responses under stress Represent the district in a professional manner Promote DEIA and anti-racist principles to foster an inclusive learning and work environment Constitutional rights, state laws, and laws pertaining to search and seizure Community social issues and diversity considerations Firearms, defensive tactics, and security methods Security improvement methods Analyze situations and exercise good judgment with minimal supervision Prepare accurate records and reports Communicate effectively in person or by phone; speak and write clearly Stand and walk for long periods in various weather conditions Meet state standards for physical and mental conditions and agility React quickly and calmly in emergencies; interact with the public in a courteous but firm manner Promote diversity, equity, inclusion in daily duties High school diploma or equivalent Must be 18 years of age at time of employment No prior convictions for crimes punishable by imprisonment Experience in law enforcement, communication, first aid and CPR Sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of community college students Possession of a valid California Driver's License Must be P.O.S.T. Basic Academy graduate OR have P.O.S.T. certification current attendance and graduation date AA or BA in related field Work is primarily outside of an office environment with some travel to different sites; may require extended hours including evenings and weekends Hear and understand speech; communicate clearly; read printed matter and computer screens Stand or sit for prolonged periods; bend, twist, kneel, crawl, push, pull Lift / carry / push / pull up to 75 pounds; operate office equipment; reach in all directions See in normal visual range with or without correction Hear in normal audio range with or without correction Submit a complete application by the closing date / time on the Merced College career pages Letter of interest addressing qualifications (cover letter) Resume List of three professional references (no letters) Legible unofficial college transcripts if applicable Diversity Statement describing leadership efforts promoting DEIA; limit to one page Foreign transcripts require US evaluation / translation by an approved organization Qualified applicants will be invited to oral interviews; a limited number may be invited to onsite interviews Health benefits for employee and eligible dependents; details on the Merced College Benefits website Sick leave and retirement benefits provided Candidate must be fingerprinted and tested for tuberculosis; verification of right to work in the United States is required All offers subject to Board of Trustees approval; essential functions must be performable with / without accommodations

Overview
Under the general supervision and direction of the Chief Law Enforcement Officer, provides safety and security for all staff, students, and visitors, and performs law enforcement duties to protect life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Officers also provide non-enforcement services to staff, students, and the community, and represent the district in a professional manner.
