At Houston Methodist the Clinical OutcomesSpecialist is responsible for supporting regulatory and / oraccreditation quality reporting requirements internal qualityinitiatives clinical outcomes processes and clinical benchmarkingendeavors of the entity.

This includes concurrent and / orretrospective data abstraction data management data analysis reportgeneration results presentation and dissemination and education ofmedical staff entity staff andmanagement.

PEOPLE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Communicates anddisseminates timely data analysis and findings to management andappropriate entity and / or medical staffcommittees.
  • Communicatestimely and relevant feedback to team management entity and / ormedical staff as it pertains to assignment errors in codingperformance / process improvement initiatives ongoing projects andother related issues;

followsup on and closes the loop of eachcommunication to ensure timely resolution or escalation ifnecessary.

Adheres toagreed upon escalation process for communication within thedepartment entity and / or medicalstaff.

SERVICE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • SupportsDepartment with data abstraction for regulatory and / oraccreditation requirements and performance / process improvementprojects.
  • Interprets andanalyzes data to determine trends identify potential causativefactors and opportunities for improvement. Incorporates analysesinto routine monthly or ad hoc reports using statisticaltools / graphic models appropriate for data and intended audience.

Presents the information to various committee or performanceimprovement teams.

Servesas a resource consultant and expert for assigned registry ormeasure sets for the Department entity leadership andstaff.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Accuratelyabstracts data through concurrent and / or retrospective medicalrecord review; organizes and inputs data into appropriate databasein accordance with specifications manual or coding instructions;

adheres to volume requirement and submission deadlines; if requiredmeets registry volume requirement for followup phone calls toclinics patients or families within the required timeframe.

  • Clarifiesinterpretation of specifications manual / codinginstructions / abstraction guidelines with appropriate registry ormeasure set support team and disseminates information to teamentity and / or medical staff asneeded.
  • Reviews andvalidates accuracy and completeness of abstracted data on anestablished and agreed upon schedule and prior to submission;

adheres to established department internal and external validationprocess to ensure quality accuracy and integrity ofdata.

Supports RCAA / FMEAprocess as requested when patient outcomes suggest possible systemfailures.

FINANCE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Manages departmentresources and assignment effectively and efficiently as evidencedby prudent use of office supplies timely data abstraction dataentry and datasubmission.
  • Reports casereviews with incorrect diagnosis or procedure code and refers casesto Coding team for review and recoding asappropriate.

GROWTH / INNOVATIONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintainsknowledge of guidelines governing data abstraction regulatory andaccreditation requirements; stays current with clinical knowledgefor specialty area by participating in internal or externaleducationalopportunities.
  • Makesrecommendations to team department or entity committees on how toimprove processes and performance based on registry or clinicalguidelines.

EDUCATION

Bachelorof Science in Nursingrequired

WORKEXPERIENCE

  • Three years ofdirect patient care in acute care hospital or ambulatoryenvironmentrequired
  • Previousperformance improvement experiencepreferred

LICENSES ANDCERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • RNRegistered Nurse Texas State Licensure and / or Compact StateLicensure within 60 days OR
  • RNTemp Registered NurseTemporary State Licensure within 60 days

LICENSESAND CERTIFICATIONSPREFERRED

CPHQ CertifiedProfessional in Healthcare Quality (NAHQ)

KNOWLEDGE SKILLSAND ABILITIES
