Electrical Design Engineer - Life Sciences
Electrical Design Engineer (5 Years Experience) - Broomfield, CO
George Butler Associates' (GBA's) Life Sciences team is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to support projects in our Broomfield, Colorado, and Lenexa, Kansas offices. Join our team of architects and engineers serving biopharmaceutical and industrial manufacturers, CDMOs, and advanced therapy companies through every stage of facility development, from conceptual planning, detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and qualification.
Responsibilities
- Develop design calculations and layouts under supervision for biopharmaceutical and industrial facility projects
- Develop construction documents
- Produce technical query documents for design clarification
- Support comprehensive engineering studies and facility assessments for life sciences clients
- Coordinate work with other project team members including architects, structural, mechanical, process, and automation engineers
- Design electrical systems including lighting for manufacturing facilities, research and R&D facilities, laboratories, and pilot plants
- Design power distribution systems for critical manufacturing equipment and processes
- Design and specify uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems
- Design security systems integration for manufacturing facilities
- Participate in internal design reviews for electrical engineering deliverables
- Coordinate with equipment vendors and contractors during design development phases
- Develop and maintain current knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and pharmaceutical industry best practices
- Support shop drawings and submittals review for electrical systems and equipment
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program5 years of electrical engineering experienceLife Sciences industry experience strongly preferred (pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory facilities) but not requiredLicensed Professional Electrical Engineer (PE) preferred but not requiredMust be proficient in REVIT for electrical design and documentationAutoCAD experience considered a plus for legacy project supportExperience with electrical system design including lighting and power distribution for manufacturing environmentsExperience with electrical analysis software (SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or similar)Experience with electrical design calculations and load analysisKnowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, local codes)Understanding of electrical systemsDemonstrated ability to work on fast-paced, technically challenging projectsStrong ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environmentAbility to complete design work under supervision while maintaining quality standardsStrong attention to detail and accuracy in design documentationExcellent communication skills for coordination with multidisciplinary project teamsExperience with construction document development and technical specificationsUnderstanding of quality assurance / quality control processes for engineering deliverablesProficiency in Microsoft Office software – Word, Excel, OutlookWillingness to travel occasionally for client meetings and site visits (10-20%).Preferred Qualifications
