We're looking for a Marine Engineer (Trainer) to support our Training Team working in our Chesapeake, VA office . The ideal candidate will be responsible for researching, planning, and developing training policies, curricula, courses and workshops, and instructional materials and delivering training instruction face-to-face and online for Military Sealift Command (MSC) personnel.
Responsibilities :
- Training Development (75%)
Research relevant subject matter for training policies, curricula, courses and workshops, and instructional materials
Select appropriate teaching methods and instructional materials using best practices for adult learnersCreate and maintain training policies, curricula, syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials using best practices for adult learnersTraining Instruction (25%)Conduct effective and efficient training courses and workshops using approved curricula, syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials, and best practices for adult learners
Work closely with the customer to set training goalsAdvise the customer on the best path forward for meeting customer training needsWork closely with training subcontractors to facilitate quality trainingOther related duties as assignedMinimum Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent training and operational experienceA minimum of 5 years of marine engineering experience, to include at least four years of engineering management experience, that demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities related to (1) planning and management of maintenance and repair of ocean-going ships, (2) commercial ship operations with an emphasis on material readiness implementation of preventative maintenance strategies, and technical data review, and (3) implementation of maintenance management using the rules and regulations of the American Bureau of Shipping and U.S. Coast GuardExamples of relevant prior experience include :Port Engineer or Marine Surveyor responsible for planning and managing preventive and corrective maintenance for commercial or public ocean-going ships; or
Engineering experience in a commercial or public shipyard supporting maintenance and repair for commercial or public ocean-going ships; orServing as a licensed Merchant Mariner aboard commercial or public ocean-going ships of not less than 4,000 HP; orEngineering experience with maintenance management for manufacturing plant operations or power plant operationsExperience gained while serving in the military may be applicable towards meeting the preceding requirementsU.S. citizenMust be able to obtain and maintain a confidential security clearanceAbility to climb ladders aboard ship and conduct training onboard vesselsAble to lift up to 50 lbs., sit and / or stand for long periods of timeDesired Qualifications :
Prior training and experience related to :Planning and managing preventive and corrective maintenance on MSC ships utilizing SAMM and PENG
Basic instructional theory, concepts, instructional methodologies, learning styles of adult learners, and best practices for adult learningPerforming training needs assessments and developing training curricula for adult learnersResearching training topics to define training learning objectives and content for adult learnersSelecting appropriate teaching method(s) and instructional materials taking into consideration the nature of the subject matter, intended learning objectives, and learning styles of adult learnersDeveloping training courses or workshops, syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials using best practices for adult learnersConducting training using approved syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials using best practices for adult learners in a group settingNAVSEA Level I and Level II Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Training or equivalent covering requirements of MIL-P-24534A or certification as a Maintenance and Reliability ProfessionalHighly organized and detail-orientedStrong research, problem solving and analytical skillsAbility to learn and adapt to new requirements and technologies quicklyStrong verbal, written, and communication skillsAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
