The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School is seeking 2-3 full-time Postdoctoral Fellows in Primary Care Behavioral Health for a two-year fellowship beginning September 2026.
This unique fellowship prepares the next generation of primary care psychologists to become leaders in integrated behavioral health. Fellows gain the knowledge and skills to support and empower vulnerable populations while thriving in academic healthcare environments.

Fellowship Overview :
Fellows are based in family medicine residency clinics, which are certified Patient-Centered Medical Homes serving diverse, urban, and underserved populations. These clinics care for patients with a wide range of medical and psychosocial needs, including depression, anxiety, trauma, health behavior change, chronic pain, and somatization.
In addition to providing direct clinical care, fellows are trained as medical educators and play a vital role in teaching family medicine residents. Fellows help train future physicians to communicate effectively and provide evidence-based behavioral health care. Teaching opportunities include :
Fellows receive individual, group, and peer supervision, and participate in a range of didactic and interdisciplinary learning experiences alongside family medicine residents. Training includes psychiatric management in primary care, population health, complex care management, and resilience.

About the Department
The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota was created more than 50 years ago in response to a legislative mandate to train primary care physicians. Since then, we have been leaders in transforming the specialty through education, research, and patient care. We are the academic sponsor of seven family medicine residencies-five in the Twin Cities, two in Greater Minnesota. We are involved in medical student education activities across the Medical School's two campuses : Twin Cities and Duluth. We sponsor five fellowship programs-sports medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, behavioral medicine, clinical informatics, and human sexuality- and offer continuing medical education opportunities. We are regularly among the top National Institutes of Health-funded family medicine departments. Our faculty are actively researching health disparities, healthcare delivery, and population health. Pay and Benefits
Pay Range : Expected annual stipend will be $62,232, adjusted for the next fiscal year, according to University and Medical School guidelines.
