The Global Category Management function is responsible for strategically managing ABC’s key commodities on a global basis in order to leverage ABC Corp’s buying power through global consolidation of spend, market intelligence, strategic supplier relationships and the execution of global frame agreements.
Key Responsibilities : Strategy
- Develops global category strategy to achieve financial savings targets through detailed analysis of the category portfolio including global consolidation of spend across all geographical areas.
- Work closely with the Engineering COE in the development and execution of the strategy to ensure that all technical considerations are addressed.
- Aggressively pursue the strategy in order to ensure competitive advantage for ABC Corp and to position ABC Corp as a market leader and preferred client of our key suppliers.
- Communicate and promote the strategy internally to management and key stakeholders.
- Ensure that the strategy is being adhered to through close collaboration with the global SCM community.
- Ensure that the commodity strategy evolves to adequately address the changing market conditions.
- Negotiate global frame agreements with strategic suppliers (where appropriate). Market Intelligence
- Hold the necessary intelligence and market knowledge to enable bid and project teams to make informed decisions.
- Closely monitor the supply market with regards to pricing & commodity trends, supplier capacity, supplier news, industry news and new product developments.
- Identify new supplier entrants and assess their capabilities to offer ABC Corp a competitive advantage over the existing supplier base.
- Prepare and distribute monthly commodity report. Project and Tender Support
- Project Tender Support and map current and projected spend data and identify opportunities for global synergies.
- Provide benchmarking data to bid and project teams.
- Review and endorse bid and project commercial bid evaluations’ / ’recommendations of awards for responsible commodities.
- Provide project support on dispute resolution with key suppliers where required. Supplier Management
- Develop close business relationships with supplier’s key senior figures.
- Maintain frequent communication with supplier’s and perform regular visits to key supplier’s facilities.
- Execute supplier management programs with key suppliers including the development of performance metrics (Spend / Saving Tracker, KPI's, SLA's, etc.
performance goals and improvement initiatives.
- Monitor and report on supplier performance and compliance.
- Proactively promote and reinforce ABC Corp’s QHSE standards and work closely with suppliers to ensure the highest standards are maintained. Job Requirements Education
- Minimum Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Supply Chain Management, Business Management or Engineering.
- Formal PSCM certifications are an asset but not essential (E.G. CIPs). Experience
- 10+ years procurement experience in the Oil & Gas industry including previous experience in the development and execution of Category Strategies.
- Extensive experience with sourcing and negotiating contracts for referenced commodities with a sound technical knowledge of such commodities.
- Extensive experience working for leading Oil & Gas EPCI companies on projects of note and considerable size.
- Previous experience working for manufacturers of the referenced commodities would be advantageous but not essential.
- Understanding of stakeholder management and supplier relationship management. Skill Set
- The ability to formulate and articulate a strategy and business case for the category.
- Strong analytical capability.
- Effective negotiator (commercial and contractual).
- Ability to communicate and influence at all levels.
- The Category Manager is expected to take ownership for the category’s success and be able to lead and influence to deliver the desired results.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and fluency in English.
- High degree of computer literacy (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.).
- Technical understanding of respective commodities.
- Proactive collaboration approach to working with Suppliers.
- High degree of mobility (there will be an element of travel associated with the role).
