DPU Hiring Event - Gas and Water Field Specialist, Senior
The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities – Water Utility Division is seeking qualified candidates to fill Gas & Water Field Specialist, Senior positions. These roles work within the Field Operations group for DPU and respond to emergencies, turn gas and water on or off, and perform routine maintenance for the gas and water system. Incumbents are Essential employees and may be required to work when the City is closed due to emergencies, hazardous conditions, or inclement weather. The selected candidate may be on 24-hour on-call, including weekends and holidays. Shifts are 8 : 00 AM to 4 : 00 PM and 4 : 00 PM to 12 : 00 AM.
Location and timing details are provided for the event and related interview process. Roles support operations for DPU and include responding to emergencies, meter, maintenance, and customer service tasks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of Gas / Water pipeline maintenance and repair, meter maintenance and repair, electronic meter reading technology, pipe fitting and plumbing, GIS maps, safety / OSHA rules, and related procedures. Strong oral and written communication skills, experience with hand tools and heavy equipment, gas detection equipment, and driving a work truck (CDL required). Ability to identify hazards, follow standard procedures, multi-task, and train others when necessary.

Environmental Hazards and Physical Requirements
Work may involve travel within and outside the City of Richmond, exposure to hazardous conditions, fumes, dust, and other environmental hazards. The role requires physical ability to perform detailed work on multiple tasks, including lifting and climbing as needed; the job is classified as heavy work with lifting requirements up to 100 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently.
