25-26 Ecostudies Institute Avian Science Technician
This is an AmeriCorps / Washington Service Corps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. Ecostudies Institute is a non-profit located in Olympia, WA. We focus on the conservation of native species and their ecosystems. We address complex environmental challenges through partnerships, conservation research, and strategic, science-based management. The member will serve on a cohort focused on different aspects of prairie restoration. They will focus on volunteer projects, scientific monitoring, and data on local bird populations. They will also support avian related restoration activities. We seek people with a passion for ecosystem conservation and restoration. The member will serve mostly outdoors. Many of the conservation activities will be conducted on an active military base. Experience with wildlife ecology research and monitoring is desired. We will conduct rolling review of applications and interviews until position is filled. Monthly stipend amount : $2,438.
Member Duties : The Avian Science Technician will support our conservation efforts by focused service on monitoring bird populations and assisting with avian specific habitat and conservation efforts. They will conduct bird surveys and assist with mapping territories; find and monitor nests, record sightings of birds, and observe behavior; assist with more complex duties such as bird banding; support bird habitat restoration activities such as controlled burnings; record and manage data; coordinate volunteers.
