Position Objectives and Responsibilities
- Prepares construction budgets by thoroughly reviewing plans and specifications, identifying each trades scope of work and projecting costs for each
- Prepares Project estimates independently or in coordination with the lead PM
- Reviews RFP’s, plans, specifications, and addendums
- Attends bid walk throughs
- Assists with entire bid process including but not limited to preparing trade lists, obtaining bidders from various sourcing methods and bid assembly
- Obtains bids from subcontractors and vendors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; and when necessary negotiates pricing to ensure bid stays within budget
- Understands scope of work to bid
- Performs quantity take-offs
- Prepares scope sheets; evaluates subcontractor proposals for accuracy and to ensure they meet project requirements; completes bid comparisons
- Resolves cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
- Develops and maintains cost database
- Ensures and maintains high quality of service by adhering to organization’s customer service values
- Maintains continuity among corporate, division, and local work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
Position Requirements and Qualifications
3+ years’ experience in construction estimating, preferably in commercial retail and corporate offices both new build and renovationsBachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or comparable experienceStrong math / analytical skills, impeccable problem-solving skillsSkilled in self-perform carpentry, drywall and acoustical ceiling take-offs; strong sitework and MEP knowledge is required, strong understanding of commercial construction processesStrong ability to read and evaluate civil / architectural / MEP drawings and relevant contract documentsAbility to meet critical deadlines and manage time efficientlyExcellent skills with MS Word and Excel; On-Screen Takeoff software experience is a plusExcellent communication skills and able to effectively communicate with all sub-contractors, employees, and clients
