- Types of patients treated in this unit are high acuity chronic illness exacerbations (diabetes, kidney failure), post-surgical patients, respiratory patients (COPD, Pneumonia, non-invasive ventilation), sepsis / infections, and more.\n
- PCUs bridge the gap between ICU and standard care units by providing telemetry monitoring, and specialized nursing for patients who are improving but still at risk for complications. This allows for a seamless transition in care while ensuring patient safety and recovery.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nPosition Summary\nAdministers patient care in an area within a hospital or inpatient / observation setting, where acute care patients receive active treatment for injuries, illnesses, medical conditions, or post intervention with assessment. This position isintended for licensed registered nurses with less than one year of experience.\n\nEssential Functions\n
- Administers bedside patient care in a hospital or inpatient / observation setting under the supervision of a preceptor, leader, and / or\ncharge nurse.\n
- Assesses patients' needs and develops / revisesi ndividualized plans of care based on their needs and responses. Evaluates patients'\nprogress toward attaining expected outcomes.\n
- Functions as an advocate for patients and their families.\n
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned\nunit / department.\n
- Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and / or nurse clinician.\n
- Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and the interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the unit / department.\n
- Coordinates patient care for a defined group and delegates tasks appropriately to team members.\n
- Documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner, meeting all required and regulatory standards. This includes, but is not limited to, patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patientsafety.\n
- Prioritizes patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.\n
- Communicates appropriate information regarding patient condition or unit concerns to other healthcare team members.\n
- Collaborates with the education department and nursing leadership team to effectively transition and support new team members\nand / or students.\n
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal,state, and local standards.\n
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.\n\nQualifications\n\nEducation / Training\n
- Nursing school graduate.\n
- Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the unit / department.\n\nLicensure / Certification\n
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida or valid Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) multistate RN license.\n
- Maintains current BLS / Healthcare Provider certification.\n
- ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas. NRP isrequired for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).\n\nExperience\n
- Must have active RN license
