Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Director – Boulder, CO

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Director to lead our safety, environmental, and sustainability programs at our Boulder, CO facility. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of programs that ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations in alignment with company and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement technical safety initiatives that support operations efficiently and on schedule.
- Lead the design and execution of comprehensive safety programs that promote a safe, compliant, and effective workplace.
- Administer the Industrial Hygiene (IH) program, including testing, protocol development, and execution of a risk-based IH strategy.
- Deliver environmental and sustainability programs, including air emissions, stormwater, wastewater, pollution prevention, hazardous waste management, and all required environmental reporting.
- Determine whether Process Safety Management (PSM) program compliance is required; implement related elements including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), and Mechanical Integrity (MI) programs.
- Direct EH&S support for site expansion and construction projects, collaborating closely with project sponsors and support teams.
- Serve as the primary EH&S representative supporting all site functional business units.
- Continuously improve the risk assessment process to proactively identify and mitigate enterprise-level risks.
- Lead and participate in investigations, drive root cause analysis (RCA), and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
- Support the development and implementation of the site’s EHS Management System.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Chemical Development, Analytical Labs, QC, Maintenance, and Engineering to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company EH&S requirements.
- Partner with U.S. and global EH&S teams to implement enterprise initiatives and align site practices with global standards.
- Serve as an active member of the site’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), responding to incidents within your level of training, including CPR, First Aid, AED use, and chemical spill response with SCBA.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support EH&S and site objectives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).10+ years of progressive EH&S leadership experience in a manufacturing, chemical, or laboratory environment.Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state / local environmental regulations.Demonstrated success in developing and implementing safety and environmental programs in complex operational settings.Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.CSP, CIH, or CHMM certification preferred.
