As an Authorization Specialist, heres a big-picture view of what youll do :
- Generates authorizations for services and accurately tracks them
- Verify client insurance and assist with office functions such as marketing, payroll and collections
- Works in conjunction with clinical staff to adhere to standards of practice for nursing and applicable law and regulations
- Ensures all assigned office functions are completed in compliance with federal, state, local laws and CHAP regulations as well as all policies, procedures and standards of Interim Healthcare
- Receives referral calls, documents job orders, assists in staffing orders with qualified personnel, and / or organizes / reorganizes job schedules for home care personnel
- Provides input to management on improving processes and procedures and becoming more cost and time efficient
- Actively participates as part of a high-performance work team to drive and manage change to deliver exceptional patient / client service
- Provides back up assistance to Intake Coordinator team
- Maintains up to date authorization processes and preferred insurance contact information / forms
- May have access to personal health information (PHI) necessary to fill the above duties and responsibilities; Access to use and ability to disclose PHI is further defined by each organization / department
A few must-haves for Authorization Specialists :
Associate degree in Healthcare Administration or related field; or equivalent work experience
- Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program and active LPN license in Virginia
- CPR Certification
- Minimum three (3) years billing / accounting experience. Preferably in healthcare
- Minimum two (2) years LPN experience; ideally in hospice
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and utilize clear, concise, and positive communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with multiple tasks, changing priorities and short deadlines
