About Bering Straits Native Corporation

Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) is currently seeking qualified summer interns in our Anchorage office. BSNC is committed to helping prepare tomorrow’s leaders for the workforce by providing a paid 12-week internship to qualified shareholders and descendants. Applicants must be current college students, high school graduates who have been accepted to college or technical school and plan to attend in the fall, or recent college graduates. Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA to be eligible.

Under the direction of the Shareholder Training & Recruitment Supervisor, and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the company, and local, state, and federal laws, this internship position performs assigned duties, consisting of administrative and clerical tasks (or other duties) in support of various programs, executive leaders, managers, and staff.

At the conclusion of the internship program, BSNC Interns will take part in an exit interview. This interview will cover topics such as job knowledge, teamwork, work habits, work quality, and work ethic. It will provide interns with the chance to reflect on their experience, offer feedback, and discuss their performance throughout the internship.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide office support functions including word processing, filing, copying, composing a variety of business documents, gathering, and compiling data, proofreading documents, and balancing and coordinating a workload for multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Receive guidance, training, and mentoring from professional personnel in planning and carrying out activities and assignments.
  • Participate in Intern Program activities such as training sessions, group meetings, intern projects and team building.
  • Collaborate directly with supervisor(s), colleague(s) and / or other internal staff in the planning of assignments and the resolution of day-to-day operational problems.
  • Identify problems and implement or recommend solutions.
  • Interact respectfully with supervisors, officials, peers, other employees, and the public.
  • Learn and adapt to modern technology as it relates to office practices and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Work effectively despite interruptions and demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize work as directed by supervisor.
  • Use a computer / laptop, related software, transcribing equipment, and other standard office equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications

  • Applicants must be a BSNC original shareholder or direct lineal descendant.
  • Applicants must be a current full-time college student, high school graduate who has been accepted to a college or vocational / technical school and plan to attend in the fall, or a recent college graduate.

    Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.

    Work Environment

    The job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily in a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.

    Additional Qualifying Factors

    As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain and maintain the appropriate clearance levels required and must also be able to obtain access to military installations.

    Shareholder Preference

    BSNC gives hiring, promotion, training, and retention preference to BSNC shareholders, shareholder descendants and shareholder spouses who meet the minimum qualifications for the job.

    2. Current college or vocational / technical school letter of acceptance.

    3. Current unofficial copy of high school, college, or vocational / technical school transcript.

    4. Letter of recommendation - dated within the last four years. Must be from a professional reference such as a teacher, counselor, or job supervisor, etc.

    5. Complete required essay – essay questions will be emailed to the applicant once online application and resume is submitted.

    6. If you have not previously submitted a Descendant Registration form to be verified as a direct lineal descendant to a BSNC original shareholder, please complete and submit the form along with a legal document (such as your birth certificate) to BSNC’s Shareholder Development Department.
