Description
UNDERSTANDING
With a strong understanding of manufacturing and packaging engineering, this position will study, design, and implement improvements, and improve efficiencies through all levels of operations with an emphasis on finished goods. This person will work closely with OEMs and become an expert on maximizing equipment settings and set-ups. They will assist operations and maintenance, setting goals and providing direction to maximize their operations to ensure equipment remains efficient.
This person will work closely with other project engineers. Assist with new equipment start-ups, commissioning, and site acceptance tests. They will also propose equipment upgrades and improvements based off of equipment studies and findings.
They will be a key player for new item start-ups, providing technical expertise and recommendations based off of experience. Working closely with OEM designs to run new products, train operators and maintenance, and record all necessary information to continue success into the future.

WORKING RELATIONSHIP
Reports directly to the Engineering ManagerCommunicates and have a strong relationship with Operations and Maintenance and collaborate with Marketing and Purchasing on new finished good items.RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement packaging designs to ensure product integrity and appeal.Conduct research on new packaging methods and determine best packaging solution.Evaluates manufacturing processes; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, formats, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors, soliciting observations from operators.Study processes and equipment and improves efficiencies through all levels of operations. Examples could include modify and updating machine settings.Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, calculating workspace requirements, and design equipment layout and workspace effectively.Upgrade systems and processes with new technology.Create and maintain process flow, P&IDs, engineering standards and documents.Inspect and maintain procedures that will contribute to the improvement of the entire process.Assist in shutdowns and start-ups when needed / requested.Ensure that all equipment is functioning efficiently to the highest possible standards, be the voice of clarity among discussions with production team members.Work directly with R&D, Engineering and Production to provide input on new installations and facility upgrades.And other duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTS
Experience and exposure in food related environmentsExperience with automated packaging system, bottling systems, including corrugate, film, bag making, case packaging, and finished pallet systemsAbility to read drawings, modify and create drawings, work within provided drawing systemsKnowledge of process control components, ideals, and their functionsTravel may be required on occasion3 years or more of manufacturing and packaging experience within a production environment or confectionery plantEDUCATION
High School Diploma or G.E.D is requiredBachelor's degree in engineering is a plusOr relative experience within an Engineering Department for minimum of 5 years
