About the SQL Database Administrator Role
We are seeking a mid-level SQL Database Administrator to support database migrations for multiple state agencies in Trenton NJ. This is a hybrid contract role that requires in-person interviews. The successful candidate will bring practical experience in SQL Server administration, clustering, high availability, and migration tools across multiple versions and platforms.
Key Responsibilities for SQL Database Administrator
As a SQL Database Administrator, you will :
Assess and document existing SQL Server environments
Support migrations through backup and restore, scripting, data transfers, and validation
Perform health checks and troubleshooting before, during, and after migrations
Work with senior DBAs, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure success
Conduct test migrations and assist with performance tuning
Ensure data integrity, security, and minimal downtime during migrations
Manage high availability and disaster recovery solutions including Always On and clustering
Maintain documentation and support incident resolution post-migration
Required Skills and Experience
3 to 5 years of hands-on SQL Server administration (2012 and later)
Experience with migration processes and tools such as Data Migration Assistant, Always On, or log shipping
Strong T-SQL and scripting skills for automation
Knowledge of indexes, users and roles, performance plans, and SQL Server jobs
Experience in hybrid or on-premises environments
Familiarity with SQL Server tools such as SSMS, SSIS, SSRS, and SQL Profiler
Hands-on database migration techniques including backup and restore, log shipping, and clustering
Desired Skills
Cloud migration knowledge (Azure SQL or AWS RDS for SQL Server)
Troubleshooting and performance tuning experience
Strong communication and documentation skills
Team-oriented mindset with initiative to problem solve
