Job Description

Provides assistance to the physical therapist in developing and implementing physical therapy treatment, procedures and related activities for direct patient care.

Physical Therapist : Scope

Scope

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate physical therapy care to the following : Neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

Job Essentials

Maintains current knowledge of standard physical therapy practices for various patient populations.

Provides competent services including treatment. Performs subjective and objective evaluation according to diagnosis, past history, and physician referral while developing a plan of care with appropriate goals and objectives based on patient evaluation.

Effectively maintains established department / service line productivity standards.

Maintains appropriate documentation for each patient in a complete, thorough, and timely manner in accordance with regulatory, facility, and department requirements.

May assist in preparing patient billing in an accurate and timely manner.

Appropriately communicates with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff regarding patient's needs, abilities, and goals.

Ensures smooth facility and department operations. Effectively utilizes rehabilitation services with optimum patient care and response.

Responsible for all aspects of patient care and education for assigned patients including supervision of all services provided by physical therapy assistants, aides, office staff, and students;

ensures consistent high-quality patient care.

Participates in continuing education opportunities in accordance with established guidelines. Seeks opportunities for new and continual learning.

Promotes and provides for continuing education for staff.

Actively participates in the quality improvement process which may include maintaining and operating physical therapy equipment safely and in accordance with established indications, facility and manufacturer procedure for operations.

Responsible for outcome input. Responsible to continually improve clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. May assist in utilization review audits.

May assist manager with department operational oversight (, schedules, mentoring, supplies, equipment, department budgets).

Actively participates in program development and marketing strategies to enhance the physical therapy programs referral base and development of department goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Current state Physical Therapist license.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Preferred Qualifications

Clinical background experience in a healthcare setting.

Possess skill sets and experience with target population of job setting.

Basic Computer skills.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Physical Therapist Assistant :

Scope

Assists in the daily operational functions and protocols of Physical Therapy services under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist.

Job Essentials

Provides appropriate and competent care to patients as per standards of practice, physician protocols and physical therapist direction in the ongoing established patient care plan;

communicating patient assessment, progress, and concerns with a Physical Therapist.

Completes all required documentation on each patient screened in a timely and efficient manner and abides by all established policies / procedures consistent with facility / agency standards.

Effectively communicates with patients and families regarding treatment plans, goals, plan of care, safety procedures, and any additional educational issues.

Performs other duties delegated by Physical Therapist appropriate for position and license that may include tracking and monitoring statistical and productivity logs.

Monitors all departmental equipment and supplies. Recommends any deficiencies to the Physical Therapist.

May participate in various daily operational / office responsibilities within the department such as orientation, training, assisting with students, patient billing, scheduling, and answering phones.

Actively participates in quality assurance activities as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited program for Physical Therapists Assistant program.

Current State Physical Therapist Assistant License.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Basic computer skills.

Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop a positive rapport with patients and team members.

Preferred Qualifications

One year of physical therapy assistant experience with skill sets and experience with target population in job setting.
