Assistant Chief Building Engineer

The Assistant Chief Building Engineer will provide leadership, support, technical direction, and guidance for the operation and maintenance of two 100,000 sf Class A commercial office buildings. Primary responsibility is to always maintain base building services and operations. This requires technical knowledge of all base building systems to implement maintenance and repairs to ensure optimal operations. The Assistant Chief Building Engineer will ensure training, safety, policies, procedures, standards, and reporting of all maintenance activities and repairs. This position reports directly to the Chief Building Engineer in Fairfax, Virginia.

Responsibilities

• Perform troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
• Monitor Building Automation System (BAS), respond to BAS alarms by investigating root causes, adjusting setpoints and schedules in line with operational standards.
• Prioritize service requests to ensure timely resolution.
• Maintain and update maintenance records, equipment reading logs, and work order documentation.
• Help manage inventory of spare parts and tools; recommend purchases as needed.
• Assist in emergency response efforts, including fire alarms and power outages.
• Assist the Chief Engineer with daily supervision of building maintenance operations.
• Act as Chief Engineer in their absence, leading all aspects of building operations.
