Who You Are...

As a Buyer II at LB Foster, you are responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and supplies from vendors.

This role evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine the most desirable suppliers and works very closely in the production planning and scheduling process to support customer requirements.

This Position...

Is an integral part of our supply chain and production planning team and processes.

Some examples of the work you might do includes...

1. Manages ERP material planning work bench by creating, releasing, and maintaining purchase orders and work orders as required to support demand requirements.

2. Responsible for weighing appropriate risk factors when making buy / supply decisions, supporting inventory targets.

3. Develops new supply sources as needed.

4. Controls documents pertaining to all suppliers.

5. Negotiates parts cost, parts specification, package specifications, timing, and other related issued with vendors and supplies.

6. Drive resolution or material constraints and sourcing issued through direct intervention with suppliers and Tier II and III vendors where appropriate.

7. Visit suppliers and conducts negotiations, supplier audits, and quality audits.

8. Review materials and work with plant management team to ensure sales order customer promise dates are achieved.

9. Monitor and track internal build and ship schedule attainment, work very closely with manufacturing plant management team, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

10. Convert production schedule from Plant Management into work orders.

11. Responsible for identifying and implementing cost reduction activities using optimized process.

12. Responsible for evaluating inventories of purchased material and for driving inventory reduction initiatives through consignment, vendor managed inventories, shared inventories, improved buying methodology, process improvement and other inventory management tools.

13. Responsible to strive for procurement process optimization and waste elimination.

14. Responsible for providing data for supply chain related ISO and other audit protocols required by the business.

15. All other duties as assigned.

What Do You Need...

  • Bachelors Business Administration, procurement, or related field required.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in procurement or buyer role required.
  • MRP system experience preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to negotiate.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Basic engineering knowledge to assist with design changes, read design drafts, and understand technical issues.
