This position provides assistive care to patients. The incumbent facilitates the efficient delivery of patient care, supports the professional role of the licensed staff, and provides support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. This position also assists with clerical functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker. This position provides direct patient care and may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.

Responsibilities include :

  • Preparing patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Reporting all observed patient concerns and changes in condition to a licensed staff member.
  • Performing Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Waved Lab tests.
  • Performing additional skills such as suture removal, straight catheterization, and injections.
  • Acting as a chaperone for health care providers during patient examination.
  • Monitoring and cleaning assigned patient examination rooms.
  • Answering telephones, forwarding telephone messages, and scheduling appointments.
  • Assisting in routine clerical functions.
  • Attending and completing mandatory education.
  • Performing patient phlebotomies.
  • Applying leads and monitoring for diagnostic procedures.
  • Assisting with inpatient and family education.
  • Assisting with transportation of patients.
  • Instructing in Basic Life Support.
  • Performing IV access.
  • Performing other duties based on department assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Demonstrated phlebotomy skills.
  • Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the specific clinic's specialty skills.
  • Ability to withstand the physical demands of the job.
  • Qualifications : Licenses Required :

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential.
  • One of the following :
  • Current Advanced EMT certification.
  • Current certification to practice as a Paramedic.
  • Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Currently credentialed in ABR-OE.
  • Current certification as a Registered Medical Assistant.
  • Current certification as a National Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Current Clinical Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Current certification as a NRCMA - Medical Assistant.
  • Working Conditions and Physical Demands :

    Employee must be able to meet the following requirements :

  • Exert up to 50 pounds and consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving patients.
  • Exposed to infectious diseases and potentially dangerous contaminated bodily fluids.
