Special Assistant To The Deputy Commissioner
Under the general supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Public Protection and Emergency Management, the Special Assistant assists in the development and implementation of programs that provide for the enforcement of the Environmental Conservation Law, Emergency Management, wildland fire suppression and search and rescue operations. In addition, the Special Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner plays a key role in the administration of operational functions of the Divisions of Law Enforcement and Forest Protection and the Office of Emergency Management. Specific functions include :
Bachelor's degree and seven years of experience in emergency response, or an Associate's degree and nine years of experience, or eleven years of relevant experience.

This position may be filled on a full-time or part-time basis. Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
