Location : Fred G. Acosta Job Corps Center

Reports To : Health and Wellness Director

The Registered Nurse (RN) position provides support for a U.S Department of Labor Job Corps contractor. The Job Corps program is a federally funded residential training program.

The mission of Job Corps is to provide career-ready technical and academic training and job placement assistance to program eligible youth ages 16-24.

Summary of Duties :

The RN is responsible for assisting the Health and Wellness Director in planning, implementing, and evaluating an efficient Wellness Program consistent with student needs and Job Corps’ goals and objectives.

Key Areas of Responsibilities :

  • Promotes the Wellness Program and provides care, assessment, triage, and treatment.
  • Provides input to the H&W Director, Physician, and Mental Health Consultant for case management of student’s health issues.
  • Coordinates and delivers orientation to Health Services to students.
  • Assists the H&W Director with Center-Wide staff training requirements.
  • Coordinates and promotes activities that support health and safety throughout the Center.
  • Ensures delivery of quality services is provided to trainees and staff at all times.
  • Assists students in developing their employability skills.
  • Develops strategies and initiatives to increases participation in health and wellness activities on-Center.
  • Promotes a safe and secure environment.
  • Complies with OSHA requirements.
  • Assists the H&W Director with medication management including monthly inventory and ordering of stock medication / vaccines, the daily count and monitoring of controlled substances, and daily ordering and monitoring of trainees’ prescriptions to ensure safety of mediations and vaccines.
  • Maintains accurate records for ordering, storage, administration, and disposal of medication / vaccines. Assists in monitoring use, maintenance and disposal of supplies and equipment in Health Services.
  • Ensures medical records are maintained and in compliance with DOL, Corporate and Center requirements and the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Provides on-call services to handle emergency care.
  • Implements, directs and monitors infection control measures in Health Services and assists with monitoring Center-wide infection control.
  • Complies with OSHA requirements. Provides written health standing orders for department and on procedures of health care.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Department Director.
  • Participates with the Student Government Association’s (SGA’s) Health and Wellness Committee.
  • The Registered Nurse (RN) will supervise the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). In accordance with state-specific nurse practice act.
  • Acts proactively, completes tasks in a timely and proficient manner, tracks and follows through on action items, exercises good judgment and problem-solving skills on Director’s behalf, and other comparable duties.
  • Enters information into the CIS and keeps necessary files and records.
  • Maintains accurate hard and electronic copy files as necessary to ensure department meets DOL, Corporate and Center expectations.
  • Runs CIS reports to ensure information entered is accurate.
  • Monitors budget, controls inventory and ensures the department areas are attractive, clean, safe and in good repair : Completes PRs and check requests to include budget management.
  • Ensures that POs are received and filed initially, and that the items requested are received in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that all equipment assigned to the department is properly accounted for and maintained in good condition.
  • Initiates work orders and ensure that repairs are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that work area, including Director’s area and other assigned areas, are attractive, clean and safe at all times.
  • Follows all integrity guidelines and procedures and ensures confidentiality and no manipulation of information.

Monitors Student’s Behavior : Ensures proper conduct of students in all areas. Assists staff with behavior problems coordinating referrals to PBSO as required.

Creates methods and programs to motivate constructive student behavior. Maintains awareness of the individual needs of various minority and cultural groups.

Monitors accountability process.

Develops Others : Establishes high level of mutual trust and support with others. Expresses positive expectations of others, even in difficult situations.

Creates a learning atmosphere. Reassures and encourages performance improvement. Provides timely coaching. Identifies successes and areas of improvement.

Ensures that departmental staff completes all DOL, Corporate and Center training as required and demonstrates competencies accordingly.

Career Management Team (CMT) : May be asked to contribute to the success of students by participating in the CMT process.

The CMT is responsible for students’ successful matriculation through the Job Corps program from CDP (Career Development Phase) through Career which includes receipt of the academic, CTT, employability, Career Success Standards, and social skills necessary to attain and maintain a viable post-Center placement.

Teams are required to ensure that each graduate receives a placement within 9 months of separating from the program as well as complete a successful Q2 and Q4 survey.

CMT will responsible to ensure that the following areas are functioning within each CMT : CTTRC, Projected Separations, High School Equivalency, CTT and CTT Credential, Literacy and Numeracy TABE, Evaluation of Student Progress, WBL, Career Transitions Readiness, CSS, Employability Skills, Contextual Learning, Career Transitions / Career.

Workplace Standards : Maintains required certifications and / or licenses including a valid driver’s license and insurance when required by position.

Does not engage in activities other than official business during working hours. Reports significant / major incidents or accidents.

Cooperates in external / internal investigations as requested. Completes PRH, Corporate and Center training as required and demonstrates competencies accordingly.

Complies with DOL, Corporate and Center guidelines.

Credentials :

Education and Experience

  • Must possess an active, unrestricted RN license to practice in state where center is located.
  • Must have one (1) year nursing experience.
  • Must possess computer proficiency and excellent communication skills.

Certifications, Licenses, Registration

Valid state driver’s license; CPR / First Aid certifications, Registered Nursing License
