We are seeking a Senior Industrial Packaging Designer within the UX Design Lab , reporting to the Head of UX Design Lab in North America, you will be a key player in shaping the future of L'Oréal's packaging, bringing an elevated innovation experience through design : desirability and sensoriality; new usage experiences and functionalities; sustainability and invoking emotions. This role sits out of our Clark, New Jersey Operations Hub .

You'll also collaborate closely with a diverse team of marketing professionals, engineers, product developers, and laboratory experts, both internally and internationally, as well as external suppliers. Your work will directly impact the innovation pipeline, ensuring our packaging is not only aesthetically pleasing but also intelligent, sustainable, and technically feasible.

Responsibilities :

Consumer-Centric Design : You will analyze consumer needs and behaviors to create packaging solutions that meet their expectations and enhance their experience.

Aesthetic & Creative Excellence : You will leverage your creativity and understanding of brand DNA to design stunning and desirable packaging that elevates the consumer experience.

Trend Forecasting : You will stay abreast of cosmetic and competitive trends, critically evaluating existing packaging and identifying opportunities for innovation.

Sustainable Solutions : You will proactively explore eco-responsible materials and manufacturing processes, ensuring our packaging aligns with L'Oréal's sustainability goals.

Technical Feasibility : You will collaborate with engineers and product developers to ensure your designs are technically feasible, cost-effective, and manufacturable.

Design Thinking Leadership : You will lead and participate in Design Thinking workshops and Design Sprints, driving innovation on our most ambitious projects. Co-Creation workshops with consumers : upstream sessions together with consumers, to ideate new user experiences and innovations

Prototyping & Supplier Collaboration : You will create, and test prototypes using rapid prototyping techniques and maintain close relationships with suppliers to explore new materials and technologies.

Research & Innovation projects : upstream R&I driven innovations, together with the Advanced Engineering team and R&I Development Labs

Packaging projects : upstream Packaging Labs driven innovations, together with the support of all of the Packaging Labs (Advanced Engineering, Technical Design Center, Packaging Science Center, etc.)

Brand projects : brand driven innovations, focusing to incorporate both an elevated innovation experience and sustainability through design

Developing and animating the connection with Operational teams (Packaging, Development, Technical Design Center, etc.), Research & Innovation teams, and Brands.

Leading local UX Design projects as part of the global portfolio

Collaboration with external resources / partners including design agencies or freelancers

Identifying and managing fast prototyping companies / partners to create aesthetic and functional mock-ups

We Are Looking For :

The ideal candidate possesses a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement. They are detail-oriented, possess excellent communication skills, and thrive in a collaborative environment. In addition :

A completed Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Architecture or related fields is required

5-7 years of experience in Product Design, preferably related to beauty or consumer products (required)

Expertise with 2D and 3D Design Programs is required :

2D : Illustrator, Photoshop

3D : Rhinoceros, KeyShot, Solidworks

In-depth knowledge of :

Understanding consumer needs; using insights and user journeys.

User trends on make up, skincare, haircare & color;

Creative concepts to full innovation & brands;

Understanding of basic packaging techniques and engineering constraints

Other design / AI tools & technology

Brand DNA and vision

Packaging and manufacturing

Understanding of color, material, finish as it relates to design

Creative skills and design thinking

Collaborative leadership skills

Project Management Skills

Prioritization & Organizational Skills

Strong Interpersonal Skills (written and oral)

Strong appreciation for our business / sensitivity to the métier

Professional and energetic with a positive attitude

Bi-lingual (French) a plus

Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time, permanent, ongoing basis, without the need for legal sponsorship now or in the future. (required)

The ability to be onsite, in the office, as this is an essential function of the position, including our NY and NJ sites (required)

Base Salary Range : $90,200 - $128,500 (The actual compensation will depend on a variety of job-related factors which may include geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level)
