Summary :
The Athletic Director fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by assisting the administration in the development of an athletic program to promote student health, athletic skill, and safety.
The Athletic Director has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies.
Position Responsibilities :
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Plans, organizes, and implements a comprehensive athletic program for students.
- Provides for the safety and well-being of student athletes by implementing safety guidelines and training of coaches and students.
- Maintains, updates, and distributes athlete and coach handbooks annually.
- Coordinates, in conjunction with the principal, supervises, hires, and evaluates all coaches (and parent volunteers) formally and informally.
- Coordinates game schedules with Local and San Antonio schools for each sport.
- Coordinates officials and umpires for all home games and parent volunteers to work.
- Coordinates athletes transportation to and from games and approved permission forms when applicable.
- Coordinates Physicians’ / schedule physicals before fall sports to ensure that all athletes have completed annual physicals, release / hold harmless forms, and registration prior to participation.
- Ensures the school’s compliance with league regulations and attends required meetings.
- Maintains athletic inventory and coordinates the ordering process for new equipment and uniforms.
- Maintains the school’s athletic calendar in coordination with the master school calendar.
- Attends and supervises all on-campus athletic competitions and ensures supervision of all off-campus events.
- Maintains current and accurate records according to school and Archdiocesan policy.
- Communicates with Parents, school staff daily on changing sports activities
- Communicates efficiently regarding registration, team assignments, schedules, and participation requirements.
- Communicates with administration / faculty regarding need for early dismissals, field, and gym use.
- Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Archdiocese / local administration
- Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
- Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff.
- Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support planning.
- Conferences with parents upon request and home games
- Files reports on the status of each team and its successes and shortcomings with Diocese RANKONE program.
- Mediates any disputes between athletes and coaches or between coaches.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications :
- Education Bachelor’s degree in related field
- License and Credentials Current CPR certification and First Aid training Experience in education, coaching or related field.
Teacher’s or coaching-related certifications preferred. Reliable transportation Valid Driver’s License (CDL preferred) Valid vehicle insurance
Requirements :
- Required to coach one (1) sport per season (fall, winter, spring)
- Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger.
- Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise, activity, and inclement weather.
- Required to work in standard gym, field, and school conditions.
- Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress.
- Attend School / Diocese AD meetings, Booster Board meetings and designated Professional Developments / Workdays, Athletic sports banquets, Booster / Athletic fundraising events, and help plan and coordinate Athletic Sports Banquet at end of year.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills :
- Knowledge of the physical fitness and skill levels of adolescent physical development
- Knowledge of coaching techniques and rules of sports
- knowledge of equipment procurement and maintenance
- Knowledge and skill in motivating and engaging student athletes
- Must possess administrative, organizational, and financial skills in addition to a thorough knowledge of athletic policy and procedure.
- Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team.
- Must have good written and verbal skills.
- Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Travel Requirements :
- Required to work some nights and weekends
